At the biglaw firm where I worked before I became a client, there were officially sanctioned signoffs proscribed in the Firm Handbook (capital F, capital H). "Regards" was to be used unless you had met your correspondent personally. At the point where you had met him or her personally and there was a personal relationship, you were authorized to use "Best regards".

I liked "regards" for its coldness and impersonality.

I think platinum is the way to go.
