No clue re real-world florists, but I've had decent luck with Flowerbud.com (not cheap, but nicer arrangements/choices than 800-FLOWERS). At least, mom and my MIL said the flowers were great last Mother's Day, but maybe they were just being nice. Calyx & Corolla also has a nice selection, but is expensive and came off my approved-vendor list when they delivered a gnat-ridden arrangement to my sister.

Slate did a comparison-shop of online florists a while back - http://www.slate.com/id/2078337

Eh? He's Canadian?

Anyhoo, I'm a little disturbed that the New Jersey Grand Old Party maintains a "Republican Babe of the Week" site.

1-800-FLOWERS did that once when I was sending a condolence arrangement. It was an added flourish, added at no extra cost and I didn't even have to request it! The recpient was very surprised when she got it. The arrangement moved her to tears.

Multiflor (formerly Nick's Flowers), 703-734-6720, www.nicksflowers.com

Dragonfly, 703-370-2525

Ultra Violet Flowers, 202-333-3002, www.ultravioletflowersdc.com

ETA: Nick's used to be (maybe still is) my ex-wife's favorite. Despite Nick's inability to keep my first marriage together, I still think they do nice stuff. All three of the above are a little funky, in a good way.

Okay, I don't know how the hell that up there happened. Really. I didn't touch it. I had no need or urge or desire to edit. I SWEAR!

You know, the professionals say that admitting you have a problem is the first step to recovery, but I say "deny, deny, deny." It's more entertaining for the rest of us.

Recent experience has taught me that admitting is overrated.
