Point being there's no difference between signing the inevitable and interjecting oneself into a process from which the constitution excludes you?

Presidents can do executive orders now to get around the constitution- where have you been?

Two words for you, BB.

Horse.

Shit.

At a single debate during the primaries, Gore asked Dukakis about "furloughs." Didn't mention "Willie Horton." Didn't run his pictures. The issue didn't take.

During the post-primary campaign, Lee Atwater picked up the ball and ran with it. Unlike the Bush campaign, Gore didn't run photos. Didn't make it a centerpiece of his campaign. Didn't seek to play on fears of a liberal president letting black rapists roam the streets.

Let's assume, for argument's sake, that I'm wrong -- that Gore in fact did every one of those things. So what? I mentioned Horton to refute the suggestion that Republicans "have never" pushed the fear button in their campaigns. Do you dispute that the Willie Horton ads were based on fear? Do you dispute that the Bush campaign ran them?

Or do you claim that, if a Dem candidate also mentioned the issue, then the Repub use of it doesn't "count"?

Trying to escape the collapsing tent. Uh-oh, there went another pole. And it seems to be taking the federalism one with it.

Dude. Don't defend Clinton on this one.

I love the man and consider him among the greatest presidents in a very long time. But signing DOMA was chicken-shit. Not as sickening as calling for an amendment, but chicken-shit nonetheless.

Ah. you're forgetting most of us studied law with a focused practice in mind. As more of us get to the Federal bench, what the constitution may or maynot say doesn't matter because we didn't study it.

Sure, yet we still have only 27 amendments, and only 16 since 1800, and 2 of those cancel each other out.

Ultimately, I doubt it will go any further than a flag-burning amendment.
Yeah, I realized after posting that I'm probably influenced by TX where we do amend the Constitution pretty much every election, it seems like. Sorry.

Don't worry, the job comes with a cheat sheet from the WHC.

Two words for you, SF:

(Well, okay, more than two: )

A. I was responding to your quick and careless whip-out to what (I'm assuming) was a joke. Reflex with "Horton", get "Gore".

B. Gore brought out that specific furlough program with the leading questions. It was clear where he was going. Unfortunately for him, he then dropped out of the race a few days later. He was set to use it. It was D's weakest point, one that was costing him big in his own state already. And, remind yourself - it wasn't a racial thing, it was a crime thing.

I read an interesting thing a few months ago about people who decided that Dean was gay because he supported civil unions as governor and because he didn't campaign with his wife.

Oh sweetie- you do care!

Ahhhemmmm.......

The most interesting theory that I've heard so far - which is nothing more than a theory, it can't be proved - is that he was warned ahead of time by the Saudis. Now, who knows what the real situation is?

FYI

I signed up for the Nader e-mails.

Here's #2:

=======================================

* PLEASE FORWARD THIS TO YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS *

Ralph Nader for President 2004 got off to a strong start with Ralph's appearance on Meet the Press and with his announcement press conference yesterday. Support has been pouring in. We need to keep building and we need your help! Please:

1. *Help* us get on the ballot: We need resumes for potential state leaders and we need to sign up volunteers throughout the country. Visit <http://www.votenader.org/ballot_access/index.php>.

2. *Donate*: To get Ralph on the ballot all over the country. We need to hire some people -- that means we need your financial power behind us. Visit <http://www.votenader.org/contribute/index.php>.

3. *Write Letters to the Editor* and call your local talk-radio programs.

5. *Write the Washington Post today.* Their editorial <http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...2004Feb23.html> claimed Ralph is extreme for criticizing Bush on the war and on their being too much corporate influence in Washington. Send a letter to letters@washpost.com.

6. *Write the Boston Globe Today*. Their editorial <http://www.boston.com/dailyglobe2/05...t_Nader+.shtml> claimed that Nader would ensure Bush's re-election because he takes votes from the Democrats -- ignoring that in the last election he had twice as many voters who were Republicans than Democrats in New Hampshire, among other statistics.

7. *Join a Nader Meet-Up* and connect with other Nader supporters in your community to help get Ralph on the ballot, click on the following link: <http://www.votenader.org/get_involved/index.php>.

We are working to build our web site into a tool for our community in this campaign for independence.

We have received great feedback and overwhelming interest. Plans are in motion to implement ideas as we grow. If you have suggestions, please email ideas@votenader.org.

Thanks!
Nader for President 2004

HOW TO UNSUBSCRIBE: You can unsubscribe from this email list at any time by sending a message to updates-unsubscribe@lists.votenader.org or by visiting <http://www.votenader.org/unsubscribe/index.php> and following the instructions.

You would expect that someone's official beginning shot in the presidential election campaign - a serious candidate, no less - could spell things right in there e-mail.
