Musical Terrorist
According to boston.com Yusaf Islam, formerly Cat Stevens, was denied entry into the US. His name appears on a federal watch list. He's hanging out in Bangor, ME waiting for the next flight out of the country.
I know some of his songs can be painful to listen to, but this seems like overkill.

No, dancing with old dudes is quite consistent with lesbianism, both new and old found. Dancing with hot, young dudes (unless gay) not so much.

The whole "Peace Train" crap didn't work out I guess, so he started funding Hamas.
He should be deported for his body of work if nothing else, but if that were the standard we'd need a whole new federal agency to round up other purveyors of crap across the country...

Guys and gals (work with me) put on their best acid-washed jeans, cowboy hat and cowboy boots, shine up their biggest buckle and put on their bestest denim shirt with the leather patches on the shoulders, drive their pickup down to the most popular watering hole, knock back a couple six-packs of Bud and stand in lines, two feet apart from each other and proceed to plug their thumbs behind their belt buckles while performing the same, previously agreed upon 4 variations of the two-step** while not so subtlely counting out the beats with silent lips?
I only started noticing it after the Electric Slide (which is a stain on our culture) died the death in a way that made it only acceptable to do at really bad weddings -- and that was like 1990. Is there some long tradition of line dancing that I should know about?
Someone help me out with this. And when you're done, help me with this photo:

I meant to post this last night. One of the most surreal things I've ever seen was at a gay rodeo somewhere around Frederick, Maryland in 1999. 250 gay men, in a very complicated line dance to a remix of Madonna's Don't Cry For Me Argentina. Not a single step was missed. It was a sight to behold.

Faster pussycat
I'll echo the happy birthday to Leonard, the alpha and the omega, and for whom I'd gladly bear children and sweep his hut for the rest of my life.
In other news, pioneering filmmaker and director of one of my favorite kitschy hot-violent-chicks-with-torpedo-tits films*, Russ Meyer, has died. Kill, kill indeed.

I'm pretty much the same as I've always been. I just didn't realize that meant I was a lesbian.

Since I am rapidly approaching being an old dude, and am certainly not a hot, young dude, I'm going to take this as a silver lining.
Congratulations, RT, on your new-found clarity.

Glorious Frederick. I used to drive through Frederick on my way to DC and loved that HUGE liquor store/gas station in it. Ever been there? Its nuts... like a Walmart of liquor right in a gas station complex, with super low prices. I wonder if its still there... God, I miss DC.

When you guys post do you sometimes almost say Bob or whatever, instead of SS?

Amazing Race
[spoiler maybe]
So, is American Airlines particularly excited that the race was decided essentially because American's flight out of Calgary was cancelled/delayed because it didn't get in the night before, and then couldn't put people on its flight because of FAA restrictions on checked baggage?
Good ad for the airline industry.
Oh, and be glad Twinkies keep for decades, so you can stock up now.

Soup for You!
I saw the real-life Soup Nazi interviewed on some fox news show last night. He spent the first few minutes protesting that Seinfeld's characterization of him was unfair. Then he announced that he would be franchising his soup stores, and that his soup would soon be available on a wide scale for $30 a quart. When questioned about the steep price he replied, "Well, you must be qualified to get that soup!" I almost fell out of my chair.

I think I see what he's getting at. Hank, it is not normally a problem with posters because you're used to referring to them by their monikers online. However, when I was doing the ACL recaps, because she doesn't have a moniker, I had to keep reminding myself to refer to RT's sister as "RT's sister." I kept wanting to write "Penelopee."

Emmys Recap
Well, I missed the Emmys. But thanks to blogmeister Ty, I have been reading James Wolcott's blog. His amusing Emmys recap can be found here.
