You mean . . . there's a black Stormy?

Am I the only one who didn't realize that Ellis Henican was some kind of TCOTU journalist or something?

I swear to God future generations will be watching that show in universities around the world. Not in classrooms, and maybe smoking a bowl, but nonetheless.

the very first episode I saw was the one that wasn't changed at all, except for the very last scene. at that time I didn't like it much. now that is my favorite episode. its humor is minimalist. how brave a decision it was o air it.

or as Hesh might say:
  • Don’t fuck with a geek, just cuz he got a gift.
You get in my way bitch you get a Vulcan neck pinch.
One night I didn’t go to sleep, up playin’ risk.
At dawn, I won, got global dominance,
but it in the hallway it’s completely different shit.
Can’t get my locker open and my pants are always split.
Can’t seem to catch a ride,
    can’t ever get a date,
but in my mind 7 of 9 thinks I’m great.

Good thing we didn't vote Drew off the island.

Yet.

Do outfielders playing in the 2007 ALCS really run into each other fielding fly balls? I don't understand much about this game of base ball, but I seem to recall being taught at some point that there were preventive measures one could take.

Will Joel Skinner be in a Cleveland uniform next year?

Not as a matter of course. Were you to watch the whole game, you would note that it's a relatively rare occurrence.

No. But will Coco be wearing Red Sox?

PS - Yes, I fucking hate the Sox with the fury of a thousand suns - but as an unbiased baseball fan - can you even root for these guys?

At least in '04, the "Idiots" were fun underdogs.

Now - other than Papi (great guy and clutch stud), Beckett (kid ALWAYS delivers), Ellsbury and Pedroia (always love to see energetic rooks) and maybe Papelpon - you've got a team of whiny, overpaid assholes, far worse than anyone on the Yanks (see Manny - possibly a bigger douche than Bonds), Schilling, Taveras, 'Tek, JD (one game does not a game make) Drew, Lugo, etc.

I give it 2 years before you guys nationally surpass us as the dicks of Baseball.

PPS - Matt Holliday - MVP

Easier to answer, they are not officers of public companies, therefore are not covered employees, and therefore 162(m) doesn't apply.

Probably not. Ellsbury looks ready to take over duties in CF and they've got Kielty and some other young players ready to make the move.

Schilling is a whiny, overpaid, asshole. Manny is much less an asshole than he was in years past. Drew is more of a pompous asshole. He's useless, bring on Kielty in RF. Skinner saved Lugo from being driven out of town (with Gagne) by the mob. Tavarez would rather be bowling.

If surpassing the Yankees as the dicks of baseball, means two more WS titles, that's fine with me.

Pushing Daisies

I finally watched the first two episodes this weekend. I don't like it. Ned and Chuck are too cutesie and annoying for words. Chi McBride is awesome ("Bitch, I was in the proximity!") but he doesn't actually seem to be doing any acting. How many episodes are we suppose to watch Ned and Chuck make mooning eyes at each other without getting bored and/or hurling?

And the show makes me hungry for pie. That is not good.

Bitter much? Pretty sure you could line up the annoying Yankees against the annoying Red Sox, and you'd have an extra inning 7th game. Schilling, like Clemens, won't be back next year. And I'm not sure who wins in the annoying column if A-Rod finally makes it to Boston. It's not worth going on . . .

If I were the Sox, I would trade Coco, because he has value and they have Ellsbury to replace him.

Manny isn't like Barry Bonds at all. Bonds creates his own world to distance himself from everyone, and wants to make sure everyone knows it. Manny lives in his own world and receives telegrams from reality once in a while.

Schilling is an egotistical asshole, mitigated only by the fact that he's a pitcher (which means you tolerate an attitude you wouldn't tolerate in, say, a shortstop) and that he's backed it up in big games in the past. That's only partial mitigation.

Tavares is the kind of guy you hate when he's on other teams and like when he's on your side. He's on the Sox because he's the guy who brings Manny his telegrams.

I don't understand what's not to like about Varitek. Like Posada, he's a class act.

Drew is a mechanical simulcrum of a baseball player, not an asshole. He would have to appear to have personality to be an asshole.

As for Lugo, I can't tell anything about his personality and I've been watching the team all year.

The most annoying thing about the endless "which team is objectively better in terms of character, personality, and overall worth" argument is how transparently disingenuous it is. Thurgreed loves the Yankees. He loves, loves, loves them. Not because they are upstanding citizens, fine role models, or decent guys. He loves them because he is from New York and that is the team he grew up supporting. The Yankees could hire a team full of arrogant misfits, baby-murderers, and Republicans, and if this team was the magic combination to bring the Yanks another title, Thurgreed would support them and argue they are better than, or at least not as bad as, Boston. Ty loves the Red Sox. He loves, loves, loves them. Not because they are upstanding citizens, fine role models, or decent guys . . . .

So when the argument devolves from "my team is is more talented and thus more likely to win" to "my team is of greater moral character, higher aesthetic value, and is as close to the abstract Platonic Ideal of sports team-ness as exists," it is hard to see it as anything but masturbation.
