Get Carter (1971)

Caine is truly brutal in that movie. I thought Terence Stamp in the Limey was brutal, until I saw Get Carter. Stamp is somewhat sympathetic, but Caine. As the movie progresses, he becomes so shockingly brutal, you can't really can't like him.
I disagree about the Brits being state of the art. Of their older films, the only two that really struck me are Get Carter and The Long Good Friday. Of the newer ones, only Snatch and Lock Stock and Two Smocking Barrels did that. When it comes to noir, America's a hard act to beat.

Monica's Lewinsky's got a dating show:

This makes me slightly queasy for some reason I can't quite pin down.
Perhaps she can give advice on "how to respond tactfully when someone asks to put a carginogenic sex toy substitute up your works." ![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](http://www.lawtalkers.com/forums/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)

Mr. Personality
Monica Lewisnky hosting Mr. Personality makes me so much less interested in watching.
For now, the best reality tv is sports and yesterday was a great sports day.
The Masters was incredibly exciting with the win going to the left-handed Canadian Mike Weir after a very exciting back-nine and one-whole playoff.
Plus, we had a dry Paris-Roubaix going to a three-man sprint in the Velodrome. Slave almost took it for the first-ever USPS win.

There Is No Justice in Primetime
Andy Richter complertely sucked. I have room for one Office comedy and that would be the Office. I turned Frasier on briefly once this season, after I bailed on 24. It seems to have turned into a drama about Niles. Maybe it has to do with syndication rights?
Good Morning Miami was The Single Guy bad. That show should be around one more season= Willand Grace cant carry it, can it? Which reminds me- I saw "Jack" on a Seinfeld rerun- the one where Elaine lends Mr. Pitt's racket to that skinny bitch publishing lady who hurts her arm. And she has to go get the racket out of the bitch's office. Jack busts her. HE is clearly the stererotypiucal gay publishing assistant. That guy has tremendous acting range.
And I saw Family Business again this weekend and the cute jewish porn guy went chasing after this Savannah type porn queen. I think even a promise that he would be monogamous would not be enough at this point. If that makes Jack Manfred or whoever flamed me for that feel better.

Is it some bizarre effort to set a record for Kelsey Grammer?
While we're at it, who watches "ER" anymore, anyway? I can understand that there is a geriatric Patch demographic that keeps the CBS lineup from changing and ruining millions of people's boring evenings of "Becker" or "Raymond" or "JAG," but I guarantee the oatmeal-for-breakfast crowd isn't keeping "Just Shoot Me" on the air. NBC's got no excuse for keeping that show, "Frasier" and "ER" limping along like this.
I have never once met a person who's sat through an episode of "Third Watch." And yet, it lives. For the love of God, how?

Wine Rec
I have heard that many CA vineyards are changing to a screw cap - ecological and economical -not enough natural cork and the plastic corks just don't do the job properly. Still, it may take me a while to accept a screw top on $80 wine for a client dinner in a restaurant.

He is also one of the hetero guys in that Doritos commercial a few years back where the hot girl walks into the laundromat. He flicks two Doritos up in the air and catches them in his mouth before being outdone by the girl who does all sorts of acrobatic shit with a Dorito and a dryer.

For some reason, I cannot open the link. I finally saw the commercial for this thing. It's really a great concept, sort of a real life Cyrano deBergerac. I didn't see the whole promo, so I am unclear as to whether there is one female contestant, similar to the Bachelorette, or whether it is multiple females trying to find their match among the masked males. Does anyone know? I think potentially this could be a better concept than Joe Millionaire, because you could pull this series off more than once. If it takes off, this series could have some legs. Plus, won't it be great to see the contestant(s) reaction if they fall for a real fugly?
BTW, Is it just me, or are the majority of FOX's reality programs completely misogynistic? I ask this as a guy, because it seems like many of the reality shows seem to involve the women having a much greater potential to be left open to the unpleasant suprise than the men. Your thoughts?

I heard/read that they are taping a second season of Joe Millionaire
"with a twist." So who knows what they told the people in casting.

Yes. In the 70s the industry term was "jiggle TV"--Charlie's Angels, Three's Company, etc.--which covers the contestants on these shows, plus the added 'catty women fighting desperately over a man' factor.
Speaking of reality TV, does anyone know what happened to ABC's heinous-but-who-could-pass-up-a-show-with-Robert-Hamilton-hosting "The Family" now that nightly prime-time war coverage is over?

The whole point of true noir is that you aren't really supposed to feel good about any of the characters by the end of the film. As for the Brits carrying on the tradition the Americans created in the 50s and 60s, I suggest you take a look at Sexy Beast, Essex Boys, and The Croupier. For examples from the 70s, Try The Spy Who Came in from the Cold, the Ipcress File, and The Italian Job
