I have a Buddy Christ statue in my office at home. Husband's first comments were "that's blasphemy" until it made him laugh.

OK, and since we're on the subject of movies, can someone please remind me why XXX was so popular and how did anyone talk Sam L. Jackson into being in that crap? I kept thinking, hmm this is like a 007 ripoff without a story.

Lost in La Mancha

We watched the documentary Lost in La Mancha last night, which shows the making (and unmaking) of Terry Gilliam's The Man Who Killed Don Quixote.

This is very sad because throughout the movie you know that it doesn't get made and you cannot help but think how spectacular a film it would have been.
Tying two threads together. If you wanted Dogma to be good, but you didn't like it, pick up a copy of Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. It's another quasi religious end of the world gone wrong story, but much, much better in every possible way. Terry Gilliam has been listed as the director in the inevitable screen version of the book.

I didn't recall The Body being in that one, but imdb says you're correct. I was also surprised to see that Starsky directed it.

Speaking of bombings and general mayhem, has anyone else been watching the British spy series "MI-5"? Damn good show, but creepy and depressing like "24", so I'm not sure I can stomach continuing to watch it.

Well, 24 was depressing in that they refused to kill Kim off, but that's a whole separate reason why it bothered me.

You must have done lost your cotton-pickin' mind. Samuel L. Jackson will be in any movie you ask him to be in. Just pay him. He is a fucking whore, whose only talent was displayed in "Jungle Fever" and "Pulp Fiction." Everything he's done after those two flicks has been crip crip crap. He does one thing. Why people think he's so cool is beyond me. Does it make you a bad motherfucker if all you do is say it over and over again?

At least people have finally grown sick of John Travolta (who was up there on my list of actors who needed to be fitted with exploding collars). But I don't think they'll ever get sick of Jackson. He is beyond tiresome.

If I were a big time Producer/Director, I might have one big name in every movie I made. The rest of the actors I hired would be no names. Give someone else a fucking chance already. Jesus. The thing to do would be to sign talented nobodies to a big flick and make them sign away a percentage of earnings on five future flicks of your choice over a 5-10 year time period. What young, unknown actor wouldn't agree to that?

Sometimes, though, that's the difference between a good movie and a bad movie.

Well, I liked Pulp Fiction and I liked Jackie Brown, but everything after that has been crap. I'm just saying, for as big a name as he is, I'm sure he must have gotten a better offer than XXX. Or maybe they just paid him $$$$$, whatever the reason, I still can't see why this movie was so popular? It just sucked. The special effects were laughable - especially the motorcycle tricks.

rainy labor day weekend

This weekend I watched the 2003 VMA's and years 1976-1979 of I Love the 70's, so now I am hip to all of your assorted rantings.

VMA's -- Listening to Xtina belt out the songs at the VMA's made me actually consider buying an album of hers. She can sing. The kisses were too fast to really judge, though I did notice a little tongue touch btwn Britney and Madonna. Chris Rock was very good. Good to see him doing new stuff.

1970's -- Anyone here watch that Warriors movie? I'd never even heard of it before the 10 minute exposition on it. Sounds like it was quite funny though. I did have recollections of everything else that they talked about, which is interesting to me b/c I was pretty young during the 70's.* Totally random group of "celebrities" giving views on those shows...

* This is not intended as a slam on bilmore's or taxwonk's age. Ah, who am I kidding, it totally is meant as a slam. Gramps.

breasticle day (again)

I've been asked if we will cancel breasticle day if we don't get more submissions.

The answer is probably. At this point we have 6 people participating, 3 men and 3 women. I'm not sure that is enough that it is fair to those individuals to be the only ones put on the spot, anonymously or not.

I'll leave it to those 6 people to PM or email me privately and let me know how they feel on the matter however.

Yes, I have seen the Warriors and I really enjoyed it.

Of course, I also enjoyed Dogma, so . . .

Well, from the sheer number of movies that Sam Jackson accepts, one or two of them have to be good. The man is notorious for signing on to any production that asks him to be in a film. From 1990 to 1999 he had over 45 film credits from Jurrasic Park to Star Wars to Loaded Weapon to Pulp Fiction to the Great White Hype. In the current decade, he has 20 films completed or in production. The man has never seen a script that he didn't like.
