"It is as it was."

Mel Gibson's upcoming "The Passion" has a new admirer: the Pope.

spree: article about the Pope's viewing of the film.

QESG Reunion

For what it is worth, I thought the video and the show were pretty amusing; they confirm that Thom is the shit. Ted's handling of the wine bottles is pretty sweet though.

And on Celebrity Poker, I give worst move of the night to Mo for calling big bets with her pocket 8s with two overcards on the board. Improbably, Nicole played very well and if Hank Azaria or Michael Ian Black weren't going to win, I was thrilled that she did.
I did watch Celebrity Poker. Probably spoiler space would be appropriate for a discussion of the winner. Not that I care this week b/c I actually watched last night. And I agree with your analysis. I have not watched last week's show though (West Wing episode). Still sitting on the Tivo. Maybe over the weekend I'll catchup.

Also, been listening to 12 Memories in the car for the past week. I like it. Only one song grates (Peace The Fuck Out). the rest are pretty good. I still like The Man Who better, but this one is a nice followup (they are sounding more Radiohead/Coldplayesque on this one, I think b/c it is a more polished production).

Since I'm reveling in geekiness today, I'll direct everone to the panda-cam at the San Diego zoo. Most of the time the little guy is sleeping and it's pretty boring, but sometimes he's moving around and/or eating and/or playing with his mom. There are links to time-lapse feeds of the previous few days.

Speaking of zoos, are the penguins at the San Francisco zoo migrating again? Wasn't it around Christmas time that they started migrating last year?

Probably one of the few people who can understand it. Doesn't he count Aramaic in his repetoire of languages?

Did Gibson finally agree to put in sub-titles?

Dunno, but as RT can probably attest, there is much clamoring among the crowd she saw Lord of the Rings with yesterday for subtitles in Elvish and Old Entish...

Since I'm on a roll more news on the Hunnibal the Cannibal. I love the part about being too weird for a gay sex cannibal. From Savage Love:

While the American media haven't come through with a lot of salacious details, the British press has never been able to resist a good gay sex cannibal story. (The Times of London had a field day when Prince Charles ate his valet.) Here are some other details the American press isn't reporting: According to the BBC, Meiwes had fantasized since age 8 about killing and eating someone. According to the Mirror, he turned down two men who volunteered to be his victims before he killed and ate Brandes. Meiwes rejected one man for being too fat, revealing himself to be a sizeist gay sex cannibal. The other reject "wanted me to burn his balls with a flamethrower and hammer his body down with nails and pins while he was whipped to death," Meiwes said. "I found that a bit weird." (You know you're a freak when you're a bit too weird for a gay sex cannibal.) But it's the Guardian that comes through with the most disturbing detail of all: After cutting off and eating Brandes' penis, Mr. Meiwes sat down and... Jesus, it's difficult even to type this... "read a Star Trek novel."

I don't remember exactly when, but I remember writing that story about them just before we left infirmation which was in February. So it must have started around December since by that point it had been a couple weeks.

And, does it say which star trek novel?
