I just want it noted for the record that I did not search for the Leonard Cohen song. It was in my head.

Too bad November Rain is not a waltz.

Why? I am dumb again today.

I didn't think either of you searched for your offerings. It's just that the word "waltz" in the title kinda hints at the tempo of the song.

"THe Whole World" by Outkast. And "Zebra" by the Magnetic Fields.

.Zebra

So we got married in Venice in June
So what?
We circled the Earth in a hot air balloon
So what?
and the rest of our lives
is one long honeymoon
well, that doesn't mean we're in love

If you really loved me
you'd buy me a beautiful pearl
but you've already bought me
all of the pearls in the world
so there's one thing I crave
when my days become ho-hum and blah
I want a zebra

We've got so many tchotchkes
we've practically emptied the Louvre
In most of our palaces
there's hardly room to manouvre
Well, I shan't go to Bali today
I must stay home and Hoovre
up the gold dust
That doesn't mean we're in love

If you really loved me
you'd buy me the Great Pyramid
Oh, I'm so forgetful, you already did
But there's one thing I need
if you won't think I'm greedy, my deah
another zebra

Zelda looks lonely, I want a zebra

You're not dumb. I just wanted it noted for the record.

I believe "Open Arms" by Journey is also a waltz. And there is a Neil Diamond song I'm thinking of, but so far have not been able to put my finger on.

ETA: My Favorite Things is also a waltz. The Penises in Buttholes version is especially waltz-y.

Pick up the "Live in Austin, TX" CD that came out a few months ago. Great live version. Plus, "Persuasion," which I think is beautiful.

It's a new series of CDs and DVDs put out by the Austin City Limits folks. I think they haven't released a lot of the performances so far on CD and DVD because of the number of rights involved, and I've noticed that most of the performances that have been released so far are from singer/songwriter types who generally play their own music. But they're releasing them quickly, so someone over at ACL has decided to fast-track the series. It didn't exist when I was at the festival in 2004.

The first set was Steve Earle, Steve Earle, Susan Tedeschi, Robert Earl Keen, and The Flatlanders. The second set was Lucinda Williams, Sun Volt and Richard Thompson. The third set (came out November 1) was Dwight Yoakam, John Hiatt, Eric Johnson and the Texas Tornados.

Johnny Cash came out two days ago.

ETA: Link to series website.

ETA2: The Stevie Ray Vaughn DVD called "Live from Austin, TX" is also from his ACL performance, but it's not part of the same series. You can get it, and all of the other ACL spun off CDs and DVDs off of the Waterloo Records* website. I really rather like this compilation CD.

I've accepted my spinsterdom, where is my membership card

So, I got rid of some guy I'd been out with twice because I found out he had a second car (I'd only seen the tahoe to that point) and it was a cheesey sports car. I realized this means that I'm not desparately trying to find a mate while operating under the delusion that it's still possible to find someone who doesn't make me want to gag like all other women who hit 30. I've accepted the spinsterhood. I'm embracing my spinsterhood...and just in time for the holidays.

Oh, God, yes. We're talking about a totally outrageous paradigm.

Excuse me, but "proactive" and "paradigm"? Aren't these just buzzwords that dumb people use to sound important? Not that I'm accusing you of anything like that.

The anal sex is inherently waltz-y. They really should have called that movie "Last Waltz in Paris." Little known fact: the Band broke up because they'd had enough of fucking each other in the ass.

Elliot Smith, Waltz #2 -- one of the loveliest songs ever. It's the one that goes "I'm never going to know you now/but I'm going to love you anyhow"

Adds new meaning to the "take a load for free/take a load off fanny/and put the load right on me"

Poll, Best song with a xylophone in it

I guess mine is Haircut 100's "Love Plus One". I guess I'm more PLF than I care to admit.
