Interesting reasoning, and I would agree to a certain extent. Mel Gibson is probably a good choice. Russell Crowe is actually probably better (I'm thinking of his turn in L.A. Confidential here).

I'm always sort of befuddled by the sex appeal of Bogart. Maybe a woman could explain that to me. I think the male role requires a bit more in the way of world-weariness, and a hint of danger, which Bogart had in spades. As much as I hate Nicolas Cage, he has been quite good in some of his roles, and probably has the ability to carry a Bogart-like role off because of those two qualities.

As far as the female role, I think your reasoning is spot on. Wonk's choice of KS-T is very interesting, but as I was reading the posts, Paigow brought up a name that I really started wondering about in an entirely different context. What about Nicole Kidman?

Oh, and Paigow, I hope the guy looks better on tv than in that photo. He looks kinda toolish, but it could be the shirt.
No competition from me for that guy. Blech.

Its on showtime- I think its on friday night at 1130 but am never around to watch it. I caught it last night after Queer As Folk, another highly entertaining show nobody here discusses. I wouldnt normally have shotime, but i got one of those free weekend promotions that never stopped running and I got hooked. I also liked the Chris Isaak show, but didnt love it. WOnder if it will be back. And I saw ads for a new show about the life of women who love women. That should be good. The ad showed a clip of the gals talking about how thier galpal had "nipple confidence". WHatever that is.

Wow. I've never met anyone who didn't like The Wiz (who had seen it). Is this one of your Michael Jackson things surfacing again?

They're both incredibly annoying. (And me, a good liberal, objecting to Tim and Susan!)

Too late for Tom and Roseanne alas. He had his tattoo of her face sandblasted off his chest already. Though he could get a new one since she's changed a bit since the stomach-stapling...

For Casablanca, I'll second Ralph Fiennes and go with Julianne Moore. Though lest we get too weepy-eyed over Ingrid Bergman's performance, remember that she said it always pissed her off when people liked her acting in that movie because she didn't receive any direction so she just waffled aimlessly.

Don't know who for the effete wuss husband Ilse runs off with in the end. Doubt you can find one in the US, American stars are too lunkheaded, even the good ones.

Is the name of the show. Its about this nice jewish boy who looks a lot better on the show, who runs a porno video business with his yenta mother from queens and his cousin stevie who is hilarious in a howard stern sidekick kinda way. Apparently the guy is a famous porno guy- Seymore Butts (and I bet Shave can confirm this) and I get the feeling he specializes in Anal and Female ejaculation videos. Always good to have a specialty. THe name of the Savannah wannabe porn chick was Jessie Jane I think. CUte in a siliconed everything and dyed white hair kinda way. Didnt seem too sharp. But then I dont think Adam/Seymore will be taking her home to mom.

remaking old movies

I think you could find half a dozen decent actors with the acting ability of the old movie stars but that's not the point (at least to me). Those old movies were very much a function of the times in which they were made and that is part of their charm. I think something like Woman of the Year would go over like a lead balloon these days because times have changed. And the kiss in Notorious that was so subversive because it broke the codes in such a creative way could not possibly be duplicated these days.

Or maybe I just don't like change (the non-money kind).

I would gladly do this, except my glasses prescription is even more archaic and I can't drive, read, or even exist without getting an extreme headache if I try to wear them. I think I want to try soft contacts. Has anyone here gone from gas permeable to soft lenses? As I recall, back in the day gas permeable were my only option due to my astigmatism and the football shape of my eyes (as opposed to spherical).
I too have severe astigmatism in both eyes and tried soft contacts a few years ago. Previosly they were never an option because of the shape of my eyeball. They actually weight the little suckers so they always fit the football correctly. I liked them except that my tear consistency is all wrong for contacts of any sort. Too gloopy (official medical term).

Yeah there is supposed to be a new show about lesbians coming out (pardon the pun) soon on Showtime. Queer as folk has been renewed so it is around for at least another season or two.

http://www.afterellen.com/TV/earthlings.html

The above is a link for the lesbian show.

Jennifer Beals is in it.

I have no idea what nipple confidence is.

No, goddammit, it isn't. Would you please quit bringing him up when I'm trying to detox out of that? MJ was fine in it. I just thought Diana Ross was brutally miscast.

I hate remakes. Why don't these clowns just redo "The King and I" with Vin Diesel instead of Yul Brynner, and destroy the film industry once and for all?

Who is that porno chick with Seymore Butts tattoed on the small of her back? Not cute, really into lesbian oral (giving, not getting, as she kept explaining in the pornos I've seen her in). I thought HER name was Seymore Butts? Although that would be very Steve-O of her to tattoo her own name on her back. I don't recognize that guy, if Seymore is the one you posted. There aren't many close-ups of men in pornos though, and, of course, my eyesight is bad.

Nope, Seymore Butts is definitley that guy. He is not only a star, but a producer and director. Kinda like Barbra Streisand. I actually would like to find a DVD of his, but I cant do porn serached from the ole office and do not spend time on the computer at home these days. Sadly, and I mean really sadly, netflix doesnt carry porn. and when I rent porn, i like to be In and Out asap and dont want to be asking for seymore butts videos that arent anal.
