Mrs. Chef just called to let me know that while she was in the airport, and I was at home, she saw Pamela Anderson in person. Mrs. Chef has an amazing propensity to see people, activities, and things that I would like to see, but that she does not care to. I think that she takes great pleasure in telling me when she does see them.

Correct. The area is called "Little Egypt", and in fact has a town named Cairo, though it's pronounced Cay-ro.
You're thinking of either the Freeport or New Berlin (IL) Pretzels... Other personal favorites from IL include the Hoopeston Cornjerkers, the Teutopolis Wooden Shoes, the Centralia Orphans (the womens' teams are the Orphan Annies, I shit you not), the Polo Marcos, the Freeburg Midgets, the Fisher Bunnies (they sound tough), the Effingham Flaming Hearts and the Cobden Appleknockers.

My brother works for a hotel at which celebs, sports-types, and politicians stay. He reports to me which ones are jerks (the Girls Gone Wild dude got arrested there recently for drunk and disorderly conduct - he was in the lobby pestering P Diddy et al), which ones are shorter than they appear (Mel Gibson) - because this amuses me for some reason, and which ones bring hookers back with them (Sammy Sosa hires 2 at a time).
