Shrimping is a vital part of Houston's economic base.

I know that the middle of the country all runs together for the elitist snobs on the coast, but Mt. Rushmore is not particularly near Rapid City, as this map reflects. Also, the monuments of Wall (the Sinclair dinosaur, Wall Drug) about 45 miles away to the east.

If it's back-to-back refineries between Rapid City and Mt. Rushmore, I bet bombing Rapid City could cause severe damage to Mt. Rushmore . . .

May the Lord have mercy on us all if the terrorists take out the Flying T Chuckwagon Supper & Show. To say nothing of Reptile Gardens.

Houston? We have a problem.

I thought Texas and Oklahoma were next to each other - isn't Tulsa a suburb of Houston? Like Manchester NH is to Boston (though Manchester has a pretty good art museum - not just the chicken "art" stuff from Houston/Tusla - so maybe not quite like that).

This (google) map reflects a drive time of about 1/2 hour. Can you get to Oakland or San Jose in that time from San Francisco? Can you get half way across Houston?

I'm talking about the Rapid City Metropolitan Area. Duh. And are we talking about bombs here? In the city center?

If they're smart, they'll go for Old MacDonald's Farm and Petting Zoo - now there is an American institution worthy of some serious bucks from DC.

You can't drive that quickly on the twisty roads in the Black Hills. On the straight roads leading north, east and south of Rapid City, sure. But not in the hills.

Also, it wouldn't have occurred to me that you'd want to visit Mt. Rushmore without also visiting the Crazy Horse Memorial. Racist. And that adds a good hour to the trip.

Certainly most South Dakotans are smart enough not to go there.

1. Maybe not in your Prius. But in a real car you can.

2. I'll visit it when it's done.*

*ETA: Why do they need a live webcam? Couldn't they send someone out once a day (or week, or month) to take a picture and post it as "live"?

Bitch, please. I drive a GM. And the problem is the road and the traffic.

If you go, make sure to see Rushmore first. After Crazy Horse, Rushmore looks like a lawn ornament.

Sure, the project's been in the works since 1948 and the original artist died, but I sense big things are in the works. You don't want to miss what could happen over the course of an given hour.

What integrity?

Tony Snow's lastest:

Quote:
"We never argued that he [Saddam] played a role in 9/11; political opponents manufactured the claim to question the president's integrity."
So, is this an admission that only someone without integrity would have alleged a role for Saddam in 9/11? Where do we find such a person?

I like the part where Rummy says he doesn't know anyone who ever contended Iraq had a nuclear program, and then they show Cheney, Bush and Powell talking about the Iraqi nuclear program.

How did he work in the administration all those years without meeting those three?

(By the way, is it just you and I today?)
