Class distinctions, in terms of "breeding" aside, I think you are assuming a lot of facts not yet in evidence.
For example, we don't yet know whether e/o's friends are old or new money. Furthermore, we don't know whether the women in question are attracted to the qualities that go with "good breeding" as you say, or merely more interested in the guys bank, regardless of where it comes from. Maybe I'm going out on a limb here, but in a bar or club setting, it's less likely to make a difference. I will agree with one thing you say and that is that you are more likely to see vulgar displays of wealth from the newly wealthy as opposed to people who come from wealth. However, since we don't yet know who we are dealing with, I think your answer assumes too much.

Oh please, you're coming off as a bit of a bumpkin. It may not be polite to be this candid, but this is an anonymous internet board, so why don't we just be honest with each other. The only people who cannot instantly recognize the better breeding that comes with wealth are those who have never been exposed to it. I do not doubt that it is possible that one of e/o's friends is some crass new money pig, throwing money around, wearing a gold chain, and trying to impress the ladies by purchasing the most expensive single malt scotch (and then asking the bartender to add soda). I also do not doubt that he would get a certain amount of "play." But assuming that her other friend is actually wealthy, and was raised that way - well, I think we all know who is really going to be successful that night. Bar, club, on the street, in a restaurant. It is easy to tell. Trust me.

Assume for a moment that you and I are in a bar. You are with your friends and I am with mine. I have a friend with me who is not just beautiful, but utterly hot, as EO alluded to earlier this morning.
At some point, our 2 groups of friends wind up sitting sort of together, in the sense that our tables are very close, and we are now talking back and forth. It has become a grand party. I will be able to tell you, with absolute certainty, which of your friends makes the most money and which makes the least. My knowledge will be based, in part, in having learned what each of you does for a living, recognizing that one of you is wearing a Chopard watch and one of you a Timex, paying attention to the stories that you tell ("remember that one winter break, when we went to my parents place in Aspen and didn't make it back to Exeter until after midterms?" as opposed to "In college, I worked the graveyard shift at UPS, so I know pretty much every zip code in the USA"), and honing into your "pack" dynamics. In groups, guys tend to give alot away. The guy with the most cash will likely not be the most noticable in the pack, the guy with the least will be taken care of in subtle ways by his buddies, etc. etc.
BTW, at some point, my amazingly hot friend will gravitate to one of two guys in your pack...the one with the most jack, or the one with the least (if he's a hot musician or poet or something).
Now, at the end of the night, you guys will have all decided which of my group gives good head, likes anal sex, and who fakes her orgasms.
This is the beauty of gender differences.

Probably true, and I suspected as much from the flower, but what can I say, I went to a state school.
(I would insert a smiley here, but I hate them because they are just crass -- and gauche -- and they would too easily give away my lack of "breeding").
Edited to add: See, the flower could just "tell"

I think that we're exposed to less truly hot women as we get older because the truly hot women we knew or may have been exposed to have inevitably moved on to exciting things (that's the way it works for the truly hot). They have opportunities.
And let's face it, the older you get, the less hot you are. So, as you age, you're exposed to fewer and fewer dimes.
But, I think there are more 8s and 9s than ever before. This is because women who are really 6s and 7s can have surgery to fix their flaws and enhance their bodies, pushing them into the 8 and 9 range. If you were a thin girl in the 80s with a flat chest and a big nose, you were stuck in 6 land. Now, you can get implants and a nose job and you instantly have a great body and a nice face.

Hotness is measured by face, body and overall hotness. After getting a once over on you, it is safe to say that you do not give me a South of the Border Combo Platter. Six for face, Five for body ( your thighs don't touch and you have office ass) and a Two for hotness. You would be better off looking like everyo one of Doctor Sutton Place's patients. Bland beats Not Hot.

You forgot to say that all of the people of breeding on the board will agree that you are mainly correct. I certainly do. Thurgreed, that "whiff" is a total misdiagnosis, likely stemming from your being both a prole and, well, if we are being honest here, from an inferior race (or perhaps one that has not properly assimilated yet -- we of breeding have not yet come to a conclusion on that front).

"Unfortunately"? E/O, your preference is right on. Particularly in a bar situation, there's no-one less interesting than some pampered simp whose worst personal trauma is about the time his Mercedes broke down somewhere with spotty cell coverage.
Definitely pretty over rich.

Is it okay if I also assume a catfight at the end of the evening over which one of you leaves with me?

Maybe it's a regional thing (i.e., New England) but some of the wealthiest old money people I've known would never be identifiable in the way you describe. Here's one bright-line example:
I used to work with someone who comes from a really, really wealthy old money family. She had two outfits from what I could tell -- a rugby shirt and jeans and a navy blazer/floral skirt combo. She looked like a stereotypical jockette from prep school (grown up slightly).
One day, I was driving through a mansion-laden area of one of the best towns near Boston. On this back road, I saw a woman doing yardwork, cutting down a tree or somesuch. She was wearing a red & blue rugby shirt...sure enough it was my work colleague.
Back at the office, I described the scene to a gossipy colleague who was from this town. She was the one who informed me that this woman came from one of the really Brahim families. She was paying for her graduate education herself, supporting herself with babysitting and the like, and living a very lowkey life. Apparently, her family did all their own yardwork, among other things.

Sounds to me like inbreeding rather than proper breeding. I'm all about preserving bloodlines, but you've got to branch out a little. Someone appoint a guardian and get this woman a new shirt and a gardener.

I'm not saying it's not eccentric but you'd never spot her (or others of her ilk) in some bar wearing a $10,000 watch. She'd be wearing the Timex. Besides, some people like to do their own gardening.

This is why the first few episodes of Average Joe were so irritatingly funny. These motherjumpin' huge guys were going on about how they deserve a girl like Melana and you just knew they'd never look twice at a girl even half as overweight as they were. I only wish some of them had been around for the "fat cousin" twist.
The amazing thing is that I do see a lot of skanky looking guys (i.e. not rich, not "classy" (Hi Paigs!) and not hot) with GFs at least 2 levels of hotness above them. Maybe it's a Minnesota thing, I don't know.
BTW, I saw all the "avoiding pms" subject lines and thought we were on a female troubles discussion.
