Not just nothing,
Not there's no answer,
Not it's nowhere or
Nothing to show for it -

It's like There's no past like
the present. It's
all over with us.
There are no doors...

My thought was that there's gonna be a whole lot of feeding tube goop left over. What's the shelf life of feeding tube goop?

Of course, this is why I'm going to hell and you're not.

Not that he's dead yet or anything, but should he die, by my count all but 7 had him on their lists. The 7 without are Dave, Flinty, Diane Keaton, Hank (surprise!), NFH, Fugee aka Angel of Death and Jack (surprise again!).

Meaning Mr Man, barely and Atticus will be in a tie for first place. Should he meet Terri Shiavo today.

For the catholics in the hizzy--isn't the smoke the sign that they've chosen a new pope, not that the old one died? Or is it both?

Or should I just PM atticus to get a 5-page explanation?

White smoke means a new pope. The smoke is the ballots being burned.

Black smoke means a balloting without a winner.

It is a sacred mystery how the smoke miraculously turns a different color depending on what the ballot results are.

but there is smoke every night during the process, yes? this is my recollection from the eons ago that the last Pope was chosen. or maybe the Pope before him, because that one didn't live very long. smoke for weeks.

Why are you asking me, given those nasty things you say about me?

But, yes, the votes take a long time, and are cast with great ritual. I understand that electioneering is frowned on and has to occur very discretely among a bunch of Cardinals hanging out in Rome for the best vacation of their last few decades, so there is not a lot of hurry to the process.

On the smoke every night, I don't believe a round of voting is always completed every day, so smoke watchers can stare at the sky for ages only to discover the Cardinals have been sequested in prayer around the holy ale keg. This is what I remember from the last times, the whole "Waiting for Godot" element of smoke-gazers.

Closely guarded secret here - When there is no clear, 90% winner in a round, the lowest-vote-getting candidate is burned along with the ballots, producing the tell-tale thick black smoke. Eventually, all the less serious candidates are either burned up, or (wisely) drop out. Proof of this lies in the fact that you never see anyone walking around claiming that he was "this close" to being pope, and there's never a losing papal candidate issuing press releases about how the new pope has screwed up yet another Papal Bull.

FWIW, "last rites" doesn't mean he's dead. It's supposed to be performed when you're alive, if possible. And regrettably it's no longer called "Extreme Unction" (best metal band name ever), but rather "Anointing of the Sick" to make this clear.

It's the same hippie Vatican II bullshit that caused them to change "Confession" to "Reconciliation."

I wasn't really asking you. I was asking the board generally. And I thought I already covered the "I'm rude to everyone indiscriminately" thing in the last week or two with MR. Why are people so surprised when I say mean things all of the sudden? I've been saying mean things for years. And now I suddenly feel like LL Cool J.
