That kind of bullshit is what drove me to transactional work. It's a virus, moron - people don't generally transmit them on purpose. Why are opposing counsel always raving assholes?
(Why, Bilmore, why?)

I took the quiz for Slave. He's certainly the source of a toaster in some enterprising young boy's future.
Your score is 141
LEVEL 8 -- EXTREMELY FEMININE
You got it, you flaunt it. You don't even try to hide it. You want the world to know that you are proud of who you are and if it means two snaps with a 'you go girlfriend' then so be it. Life is too short to be someone you're not, and you'll be damned if you're going to suppress your girlish charm for anyone.

I hated reading Wodehouse. It was very disappointing because I am also a sucker for a shoel series of books (with or without the tasteful jackets). Can't figure out why. Yes, I like the TV series. I even like Lord Peter Wimsey books, but the collection of Wodehouse that I read was dead boring. I may try one as an Audio book. The Elizabeth Peters that I am listening to now (He Shall Thunder inthe Sky) is very good.
Speaking of audio books, Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim by David Sedaris is very good. Loved the story about Santa Claus in the Netherlands.

Lest it be thought that Wodehouse was a Nazi sympathizer, this is far from the case --- it's more a sign of the Germans and Americans being unable to "get" British humor. The apparent flippancy with which he took his internment (first in an honest-to-goodness detention camp, and then more famously in the Berlin hotel) was interpreted by some (including the Germans) as a sign of sympathy for the German "cause," but it seems more likely he was trying to be very "British" about his capture and detention.
In fact, the five broadcasts were rehashed from a long morale speech he gave to fellow British internees at the camp in Tost in Upper Silesia --- stiff upper lip; it's not too bad, chaps; show the blighters, etc. Goebbels's Propaganda Ministry then projected the recordings into Great Britain in an effort to convince the British public that Wodehouse was on their side. This is probably not so, as Wodehouse was largely apolitical but repeatedly cariacatured the British fascist movement in his fiction as being a bunch of idiots and Nazi dupes, most notably with his Spode character, a mockery of Sir Oswald Mosley.
Shortly after the war, the Foreign Office and Ministry of Defence cleared him of any wrongdoing --- probably because, after the war was over, they "got" what Wodehouse was doing by proclaiming that detention had no effect on the spirits of British detainees. Of course, one wonders what he would have written if the magnitude of the Nazis' other little project had been more widely known, or known to him.
I'm a fan, but admit I've seen more of the Fry & Laurie adaptations than I've read.

Can you imagine a more perfect casting of Bertie Wooster than Hugh Laurie? I cannot. He's ideal. Stephen Fry is too young to play Jeeves, but he was competent.
The stories are such a hoot.

Sedaris makes me want to gack. And not in the "keeping myself fit and trim" kind of way.

Neither. I was slow on the submit button. Please accept my humble apologies.

Going home to wonder about why we all thought of Sedaris when Ty asked about Wodehouse.

If I had a dime for every time I got threatened with sanctions I wouldn't have to do this any more. If I had a dime for every time I was actually sanctioned, I would have, well about three bucks.
