See, I don't think it was. It was a simple play on words, but the honk suggests that we can't do word plays on "certain" subjects, even when you're trying to lighten a subject up.
And, leagl, I wasn't implying censorship. I was implying disapproval from you in an area in which I certainly think I've earned a bigger benefit of the doubt than you are seemingly willing to give to me. And that's disappointing.

My eyes just filled with tears reading that, as it brought to mind a sign posted on the entrance door to a toy store in my neighborhood in the days following 9/11. It had a photograph of a 30s-ish woman with a message underneath asking if anyone had seen their mom (please call, this is her name...). It just makes me think of the remote hope people had of finding their loved ones -- none of whom turned up alive after that day.
What's more, I turn around in my office so that passers-by don't see my tears, and the view from my window shows where the WTC would be now... so, more tears. (I used to work in One WTC).
I thought the beams of light illuminated where the towers once stood was a very moving memorial, especially as the light trailed off, but you couldn't quite tell where it ended -- as though the light was trying to reach those who were lost.
What a sad, sad day.

Food and allergies

It's only really a problem when I'm at people's houses (particularly because I have to avoid a good bunch of the other food too, because it's one of those "anything that touched it or touched a surface or utensil that was used to prepare the allergy-inducing food may trigger the allergy if it wasn't super-scoured" allergies).
I recall being at a restaurant once where some innocuous pasta dish was garnished with the forbidden substance (not listed on the menu). So I sent it back saying "this wasn't on the menu and I'm quite allergic, so I need a new plate, and I mean an entirely fresh plate." Damn thing came back with the stuff scraped off - and not thoroughly at that.
|
That happens all the time!! Years ago I forgave the ignorance, now with all the press that the peanut allergy has been getting, I am amazed at the level of ignorance in the food service industry about food allergies.

I'm trying to cut down myself. It's one thing when its pencils and bic pen caps, but fountain pens are an expensive chewing habbit.

I have a friend who was at Ground Zero last year for the memorial. She told me that the sun shone brightly that day into the hole where the towers had been, as if our lost loved ones were trying to tell us that evil had managed to bring down the towers, but that in their absence there was light.
I lost a ton of friends when Pan Am 103 exploded. There are places I can go where, if I am very quiet, I can still hear their laughter. I imagine Ground Zero is a lot like that for some people. I, myself, have no desire to ever go there.
It is a sad sad day.

You needn't wait long, but for different reasons than you're suggesting. It's when you're acting like a pompous asshole that I tend to call you on it. And you'll note that I've said nothing either way on the substance of the issue. In fact, the whole problem you just had with leagle revolves around you being you. You're just so convinced of your perfection that you'll never be able to see it.

What's with this?
In a place where folks like to use guns, they should be able to hit what they aim for. This just further lessens my respect for Texans.
