Shrewsbury? Why is that weird? What state? I went to kindergarten in Shrewsbury... is that significant?

By she, are you referring to me or RP or some sock named not for hire? Because everyone knows that I'm no prostitute, I'm a homewrecker.

Why oh why did they have to butcher two Brian McKnight songs? What did he ever do to them other than inflict maudlin love songs on the world? I never thought he had a fabulous voice (his brother Clyde is the great talent in the family and the OM claims even Brian's ex-wife had five times the voice), but their destruction of his melodies make him sound like he's Placido freakin Domingo in comparison.
The other thing that killed me last night was their poor sense of tempo. For real singers, pitch problems and hitting the wrong notes are like nails on the blackboard. For me, I want to run screaming from the room when someone has no concept of the beat of the song.
The obvious thing AI demonstrates is how difficult it is to sing well.

Agreed. How can everyone in one group be tone deaf? Who assembled these groups? And the voice coach doesn't seem to be doing much since most of these people sounded better in their original auditions - even the hawaiian pancake flipper.

I have not much to ass to what's been said already. There was a lot of suckitude going on last night. Lisa Leuschner (redhead with gap teeth) was the only one who was affirmatively good (looking back to last week, I would say better than Diana DeGarmo). Camile Velasco gets points for sounding different (something we struggle with in my family--we're all really good singers but sound too pretty and nice to ever make it as pop stars). And I can't help myself, I like Matt the football player.
Song choices were really really weird last night. The first week they were almost all really well-known and extremely white; last night a few sounded familiar, but I could only come up with a title for the Norah Jones track that the baby dyke sucked on. If you're going to perform the top-selling single from last year, either you've got to do it better than the original, or you've got to do something to make it different. And that poor girl needs some serious hair help.

Don't insult my girlfriend the baby dyke! She may have sucked but I luv her anyway so I hit redial for an hour last night while watching America's Next Top Model (best reality show on tv right now). She sucked mightily but she is my girlfriend so if you have to listen to her butcher more smash hit songs in the weeks to come, you can blame me.

They won the Series in '87 and '91. So, it's not a stretch to assume that they would outdraw some bigger market teams if they made a serious run at the Series or won it (especially in the hypo under which we are currently working). If the Mets drop to the cellar, they would most likely still earn more (better tv contracts, etc.), but it's not that big a jump.
But let's move on to something interesting since we're living in fantasy land, because there ain't gonna be extensive revenue sharing or a salary cap in baseball.

Somewhere in the back of my brain I remember reading about a m-to-f tranny trying to play in pro women's tennis events in the 70s/80s, but she was banned. Anyone confirm?

Courtney
I don't know why the sudden fascination with Courtney Love, since she had her husband killed and all 11 years ago but now she is turning to Scientology with the help of, of all people, Kirstey Alley.
Death watch 2004, and now Scientology
From the article...[heroin addict Courtney] thanks Scientology and Kirstie Alley in the liner notes for her new CD, America’s Sweetheart.
Alley is the spokeswoman for Narconon, a drug treatment program based on the teachings of Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard. Alley has credited Scientology with helping her overcome her own drug problems.
So I didn't know that Narconon was founded by L. Ron Hubbard. What else is he involved in?

Agree the joke would have worked better if she were from San Medusa, Lesboyanna, or Harridan's Corner, but I'm having trouble with Google today and can't find these on American maps.
Plus, she really is from Shrewsbury (MA), which worked out okay and had the ring of truth.
