Which has nothing to do with the fact that you - apparently- are an anti-Christian bigot.

Coming from an unemployed male that pretends to be a female lawyer, that really - as they say - "leaves a mark"

Sidd and Atticus have had to keep a low profile of late so that they could sign up for Mayor Ed Koch's Republican Greeter program here in NYC. Oh, the places you'll go . . .
ETA this link to a blog for those of you not registered to view the Paper of Record in TCOTU.

On the other hand, the sign in front of the public school my daughter attends has one of those signs that has the removable letters that allow you to post messages about current events. For some reason, someone saw fit to place the message, Have a Blessed Summer on the sign. For some reason I cannot quite put my finger on, I find this far more offensive to my sensibilities than the use of the words "under God" in the pledge. Perhaps it's because I'm reminded of it every time I drive past the school building.
Question:
Is one "worse" than the other in your opinion, are they equally bad, or is neither worth getting upset about. Thoughts?
|
I would say (c) -- neither are worth getting upset about.
As to the sign, while I'm a little surprised at that message on the public school board, I'd say take in the spirit with which it was putatively intended, and be pleased that someone has wished you well and urged their God to bless your summer activities. It can't hurt. I just don't understand why folks get pissed about that kind of stuff.
As to the Pledge, I have much more understanding of the initial protest cases based on the Jeohovah Witnesses than I do of someone pissed by two words stuck into a rote recitation.

(a) That control is based on prior elections.
(b) Gerrymandering is a bitch. Took the GOP decades to beat it. Now they've turned the tables.

Nah. Just enjoy the occasional poking fun at the churchy set with all their "blessed" this and that (and another favorite, "Jesus is Lord!"). I would imagine "blessed" could apply to Old Testament stuff, but damn if I've ever heard a Jew declare things "blessed" or speak in tongues or whatever. (Exception: Lubovitchers with flashing signs on their station wagons declaring the coming of the Messiah).
How YOU doing, baby?

True, but it goes both ways. Most districts, regardless of dem or repub. are non competitive at this point. I don't think the politicians have figured it out themselves. Rather, they figured out that infotech has gotten really good at identifying on a block-by-block basis party affiliation, so they can draw the lines really well.

Your comment makes me curious, because it suggests that you disagree.
How can you (or anyone) possibly disagree with my Point A -- a simple statement of fact?
Why do you disagree that the increased proportions of safe seats, brought about by more sophisticated gerrymandering over time and culminating in the redistricting after the 2000 decennial census (or, actually in Texas after 2002) -- has strengthened the control of the party with the majority of the seats in Congress?
Christ, do I always lose you guys when I try to use shorthand as oppose to David Broder-speak?
