FWIW, the rooster down the street from me is very reasonable in the hours that he keeps. The crowing doesn't seem to bother anyone.

Certain basic services must be afforded all to avoid a really unpalatable society. Education's one of them.
Why? I mentioned a while back, we will always need and want an ignorant underclass to do such important tasks as shining my shoes and making my sammich.

If that class gets to a certain size, it becomes unmanageable.

We have incredibly fucked up borders that cannot be characterized as closed or open. So he is correct that we don't have open borders, and you are correct that we don't have closed borders.

I. am. so. diplomatic.

I just want to be able to fly to Canada without a passport. Do you remember when you could do that?

I take some young men to a basketball tournament in London (Ontario). These young men do not have the famliy background where they would have a passport. And it is a hassle to get them w/o having a parent show up to sign for the application. Luckily it turns out that for the borders you can drive across you only need birth certificate- at least until 2008.

Yes, you can drive over w/o a passport for a few more months, but WTF?

How many fearsome terrorists are going to be deterred from crossing an unguarded 3,000 mile border by the passport requirement? While the rest of us have to get passports for the 2 year olds.

The Bush administration just likes intrusive government.

I believe that the passport regs have been modified for kids under 16. All you will need is a certified birth certificate for Canada.

I find this odd. The hoops for getting a children's passport are much higher. Both parents have to be present, and there are other things. The concern is that one parent will abduct a child to a foreign country, and the other will have no way to get them back.

So, we then exempt people going to Canada from the passport requirement for children?
