Pop-ups, in weird ways

Interestingly, I use Firefox for Outlook Web Access all the time, with no problem. I've had fringey's McAfee problem before, though. Can't remember why it went away.
(and thanks for the offer fringey. nice to know I have options)

I use Safari. v. 1.0 didn't work well; 1.2 is no problem.

I can't get OWA to work with Safari v1.2 either, though I know of many people who use it all the time. Maybe it has something to do with the way our IT group has set up OWA?

Definitely could be. I know our IT guys are both the most likely to use OWA and are the most likely to use Firefox at home, so probably would have gone to some effort to configure it correctly for compatibility.
Unfortunately, I know nothing about OWA except how to log on, and since it's always worked for me, I have no idea what you might want to try tweaking. Maybe you should report it as a bug?

Google Desktop Search
Google just introduced a desktop search engine that works unbelievably well. It makes the windows search function look like a toy.

I've read about concerns with this tool if installed on public computers (i.e. library, internet cafe, etc.).

You compose a long, long letter to you secret love, Hank, in which you include not only the sordid details of your fantasies, but also your name, address, phone number, credit card number and password to all your on-line accounts. The computer saves a draft of this letter in one of its temporary directories, and Joe-bad-guy-Internet-Cafe-Waiter searches for and discovers the information onthe hard drive later that evening.
But Google is the least of one's problems with an Internet Cafe. It would actually be much easier and more effective to just install key logging software.
Beware the public internet point. Don't do financial transactions, and try not to access anything critical that requires a password.

Firefox v1.0
For all who run Firefox, I strongly recommend upgrading to the newly-released v 1.0. You can download it here. I find it to be significantly quicker than previous versions.

Do you recommend Firefox? I was just thinking of switching.

I use it on both a Mac and a PC at home. (I don't think I'm allowed to switch at work.) I wouldn't have switched on the Mac, necessarily, but Safari died when I upgraded to Panther or Bobcat or Manx or whatever the hell Apple is calling it now.
I like Firefox well enough, but it's just Joe Browser (i.e., not really noticeable). I just like the fact that it's Not MS, 'cause I'm all counterculture and shit. If I were half a man I'd switch to Linux.

This pisses me off no end--I understand that work IT nazis don't want people to download all kinds of krazy shiznit. So, they bar the door. Then every fuckin' week they send out a security patch because of the holes in IE. So, I say when I call to complain about being unable to use Netscape or Firefox or anything half decent, how's about letting me download one of those? No can do, Burger, we can't allow non-standard software on the computer. We support IE only. Indeed they do--and quite a bit of support they have to give it. Assjacks.

Concur. At my last job I could have installed Halo 2 and no one would have been the wiser. But here there's actually an IT department that is bigger than my department, and as the new kid I'm always sure to include a cover sheet with my TPS reports.
If the IT department weren't worried about advising themselves out of a job, we'd all be using Macs at work.

True dat. Oddly enough, I've talked to enough IT people to realize that many of them are Mac junkies at home.
of course it pisses me off all the more to be told that, and that the IT dep't won't even support Mac use from home (while they all can VPN in with no problem on their macs).
