You saw the woman cutting down a tree in a rugby shirt. Eccentricity is one thing, but inappropriate attire for domestic lumberjackery is just inexcusable.

Even if she technically has money, it's immaterial in her case because she lives like she doesn't. What's the point of dating someone rich if they look incredibly tacky/stupid in the same clothes all the time and you spend your weekends doing yardwork at the person's prole-looking house?

I used to work with someone who comes from a really, really wealthy old money family. She had two outfits from what I could tell -- a rugby shirt and jeans and a navy blazer/floral skirt combo. She looked like a stereotypical jockette from prep school (grown up slightly).

One day, I was driving through a mansion-laden area of one of the best towns near Boston. On this back road, I saw a woman doing yardwork, cutting down a tree or somesuch. She was wearing a red & blue rugby shirt...sure enough it was my work colleague.

Back at the office, I described the scene to a gossipy colleague who was from this town. She was the one who informed me that this woman came from one of the really Brahim families. She was paying for her graduate education herself, supporting herself with babysitting and the like, and living a very lowkey life. Apparently, her family did all their own yardwork, among other things.
The most obvious differnce between your true life friend and my made up hypotetical is that your friend is a woman and I was talking about men. I never claimed to be able to tell if a woman has or hasn't money, but rather whether a man has or hasn't money.

Are you kidding me? Dating can lead to marriage, and if that person banks on outliving the rich person, there is the potential for a greater inheritance. Sheesh - didn't you read last week's discussion on lazy hoes thinking they are owed a living? That's why you seek out the OLD ones!

Spot on Princess Paigs. On an abstract level, I am able to recognize what appears to be words from the English language in PLF's posts, BUT when I try to read those same words that he vomits on to this board all I am able to hear in my head is "Meow meow meow meow meow . . . ."

He is a terrible bore who jumped the shark back on the Yahoo boards. I pray that leagl bans him soon.

reality tv

first, a quote from realityblurred today that was funny:

Quote:
The Office actor Ricky Gervais says that Pop Idol 2 contestants "are very probably bordering on the mentally ill," he tells Jack magazine. Speaking of mentally ill, a fan of finalist Mark threw herself in front of his car. However, Mark is thrilled with this. He says, "She's everywhere I go. I suppose it does scare me slightly, but it's also very flattering. She can spend up to 15 hours waiting for me outside the studios and I do try and talk to her whenever I can to make it all worthwhile. I'm honoured that somebody thinks I'm worth it." You decide who's the disturbed one in that relationship.

It now seems clear that either the Fox producers flat out told them to mess with people or Paris/Nicole already had a good grasp of what would make Good TV. Their Sonic escapades were hilarious. I particularly liked when they ran across the street to a store in the giant shake outfits and wrestled each other to the ground. Nicole is spunky. Paris, however, is still coming off as vacuous. Of course, she probably is vacuous, so not such a surprise.

Danish Butter Cookies

For a bland snack, they sure are addictive. Kind of like the peanuts of the cookie world.

So if you're at a bar and all of a sudden you get this feeling that a woman you're talking to has money, does that mean it's a he in drag?

Why would I be talking to a woman?

I suspect that's much more common where you live.

Truly Hot Women/Avoiding pms

The amazing thing is that I do see a lot of skanky looking guys (i.e. not rich, not "classy" (Hi Paigs!) and not hot) with GFs at least 2 levels of hotness above them. Maybe it's a Minnesota thing, I don't know.
So there has been much discussion on this phenomena, but does the other (i.e., hot guy, not-hot girl) exist very often? I can think of one guy I went to high school with that I think would have fallen into the "hot" category (I don't really have a basis to judge, but he seemed like he should have been: face seemed ok, good hair, athletic body (good swimmer), smart, reasonably well off family, polite, funny but not too funny so as to be annoying). He had a girlfriend a little on the heavy side. Not really fat, but maybe a size 12-14, whose face wasn't all that either.

But that's the only one that leaps out at me, but is may be that I am insensitive enough to such things that only the really obvious disparities pop out at me (I'd guess he was at least a 9, she was a 4-5). So do people who pay more attention notice a bidirectionality?

I see more attractive women with less attractive men then I see attractive men with less attractive women. Not universally, but more often then not.

I think it is both cause men are more often the pursuer and women are looking for things besides looks at an earlier point in the potential relationship. Not necessarily less shallow things just other things.

You know, I really need to learn that then/than thing one of these days.

Don't be a wuss. If you really think that, post it under your normal moniker, not a sock.
