Not as big of news as, say, Terri Shiavo's death but...

It just seemed like that because they needed a pope within a few weeks.

My thought was that "Persistent Vegetative Popes" is a much better name for Ollie's band that "Blowjob Camels".
See you there.

But, yes, the votes take a long time, and are cast with great ritual. I understand that electioneering is frowned on and has to occur very discretely among a bunch of Cardinals hanging out in Rome for the best vacation of their last few decades, so there is not a lot of hurry to the process.
On the smoke every night, I don't believe a round of voting is always completed every day, so smoke watchers can stare at the sky for ages only to discover the Cardinals have been sequested in prayer around the holy ale keg. This is what I remember from the last times, the whole "Waiting for Godot" element of smoke-gazers.

Didn't Dan Brown cover the details in Angels and Demons?

Italian media is saying Pope is dead, but CNN has not independently confirmed. (no link because I'm watching it on the TEEvee.)

I see that more as an album title. It's got something of a Butthole Surfers vibe to it, so I'm thinking it may be a better vehicle for Attican Bedshitter. After "Gaping Gash Lemon Brine," I figure it's an easy sell to the label. I'm sure Walmart will carry it, this time.

My SO and I are starting a small punk outfit called "Original Broadway Cast." Guaranteed record sales PLUS ironic fucking with people who deserve to be fucked with.
We're now entering the studio to record our debut album, "Rent." Anyone who cannot play an instrument is invited to join.

Probably not a surprise to anybody, (except Hank and Jack)

pwned
2005 will go down in history as a bad year for Popes. One of the Sedevacantist Antipopes died on March 22 with much less fanfare. Fitting, given that his followers predicted he would be crucified in Jerusalem but didn't have the gumption to see the job done themselves. Surprise, surprise --- the glorious eschaton will be delayed yet again because the Spaniards were too lazy to crucify someone who was askin' for it.
