no. the lamenting is usually more about unearthing the final (as in last-straw) quality or trait that means we have no alternative but to show him the door, bc there is no one stupid enough to believe that a man could ever change.

I obviously had the wrong girl friends in my young and clueless days because I know too many women who have gone into or stayed in relationships with men despite the obvious presence of unacceptable qualities.

I heard somewhere that when you have an instant intense attraction to someone (not explainable by hotness), it is because your emotional issues are clicking with that person's issues. Don't know if it is true, but it would explain why so many enablers end up with people who have addictions.
