Gender Genie
Here's an interesting site: Gender Genie
It does textual analysis to predict whether the author is male or female. I'm not sure it works, though, because I plugged in some of Not Me's longer recent posts, and it says she's a he:
- Female Score: 371
Male Score: 1180
The Gender Genie thinks the author of this passage is: male!
Back to the drawing board, I guess.

No it works!
I put in my friend's suicide post, and:
Female Score: 488
Male Score: 468
The Gender Genie thinks the author of this passage is: female!
So it got me, but also props to me for sounding almost like a guy.

Coltrane was right, I'm a guy. I put in my question about VT's position. May not have been long enough to analyze properly.

Perhaps extensive time spent listening to the Howard Stern Show influenced the word selection of the Not Male sufficiently to skew the analysis.
Speaking of which, it's amusing that Clear Channel is cutting back on Howard, seeing how much money they've made off his particular brand of offensive crap. Is this favoring of morality over money just an election year thing? Sucks to be a R when you've got to choose between the two.

At least we can take comfort in the fact that they are no longer making money off him.

"I like bacon." 100% female.

Weird that.
ETA: Sorry, wrong board. How about Kerry winning three more states. Meaningless or what?

This is a good point. The post I picked, while long, was only about 300+ words, and the site says it works best on 500 words on more. So I pasted in text from a whole bunch of Not Me post, more than 1100 words before I got bored with this. It stills says she's a man. So it definitely must be broken -- that's the only possible explanation.

I am a very assertive female who is good at science and math. My thought patters are very analytical and in that sense, I am not the typical female so it doesn't surprise me that without seeing me in person, my writing style comes across as more male. Most women I know take pride in their lack of mathamatical ability as if it is cute to be female and not good at math. I take pride on having accomplished so much in areas that females have historically shunned.
I am sure whomever developed that software based it on stereotypes and chose the stereotype that assertive language or a more analytical writing style was more likely to come from a male.
The only way to make some sort of prediction like that is to base it on a stereotype. That is, afterall, what stereotypes are - descriptions of the averge or likely or predominant characteristic in a group. I definitely don't fit the stereotype for women in my thinking patterns.

Doesn't surprise me that left-wing males come across as somewhere inbetween genders.
This link explains the stereotypes the Gender Genie's algorithm is based on.

BTW - why so much interest in everyone's genders?

He goes for the hippy chicks. Lots of granola. Environmentally friendly, etc.
