This is what you really need:
One of these babies, a couple buddies, a case of beer, and some trig tables and you've got yourself a good time.

As I said, if all guns were out lawed tomorrow, I wouldn't give it a second thought.

Yes - I don't think we should let felons in from other countrys (that is felonies that would be considered felonies in the US). Is that really Canada's policy? If it is their policy why aren't all the illegals flooding up there?

You ever check out anything interesting from a library?

Does the Patriot Act make it a crime to do so?

Not recently. But I buy books all the time with my credit card and that data is all over the world for anyone to see. And if you are checking out a book at the library hey - that is free. If you don't want anyone to know, buy the book with cash at a book store or don't leave the library with it and read it in the library. The library already has a record of what books you read, so why is it such a big deal if the Feds get that information.
How else can the patriot act affect me?

Before the law the criminals had guns and I didn't.
After the law the criminals have guns and I don't.
What's the difference?

It isn't that big of deal. Nor is it that big of a deal for the cops to just peak in the window of your house. Or maybe open the door if it is unlocked. Or maybe even kick the door down and strip search your ass. If you have nothing to find, why should you care? And why should I care if the government is listening to my phone calls or intercepting my emails?
I mean, you are right on the one hand, none of it is that big of a deal. But as much as I hate a slippery slope argument, it is the small incremental revocations of our civil liberties that I worry about adding up to something bigger, which is pretty much what has happened over the last thirty odd years of fourth amendment jurisprudence.

Exactly. Simplifies everything. Isn't that great?
ETA: crap quoted the wrong post. Consider this a response to "only criminals will have guns."

Yes, it's worked amazingly effectively in DC to reduce murders and other gun-related crimes.

It'll be a big deal when Vice-President Arnold convinces Hilary to appoint Spanky Ambassador to Singapore and his nomination fails because of phone calls he made to certain young "models" in Japan.

Funny how the Star Trek thing neutralizes the Hill Street Blues thing for me. No offense.
