Don't get me wrong -- I love him; he's reliable, which is key when you never know how the rest of the pitching staff is going to play. However, with the NYY, he has never been as completely dominant as he was when he played for Baltimore. That's all I mean about the performance discount. It seems to have turned one of the games top pitchers into a mere outstanding one. (I know; cry me a river.)

His stats show that the best years he had, ERA-wise, were the early 90s. But he's been pretty consistent ever since.

I think everyone expected him to just dominate once he got some run support in NYC. Everyone thought that he would be a 20 game winner easily, but it just doesn't seem to work that way.
I think with Mussina, he just doesn't have a number one starter's attitude. I think he wants to be the second or third guy in the rotation. He can be the number one if he has to (and he was in Baltimore and gets put in that position regularly here), but he's a placement guy. He doesn't blow you away.

Crap. Now everyone is going to know I don't read the baseball posts (unless they are two lines or less, well, sometimes I read those). How humiliating.

I don't remember who the O's got for Mussina (or did they lose him to free-agency?), but everyone in Baltimore pretty much agrees his moving to NY was a pretty big ass-fucking.

Yes, you don't have a blueleg to stand on in this thread. It's as if you have a wood ear for the whole topic.

All the ass-fucking in Baltimore has been done by Peter Angelos.
