Sorry, NFH.
ESPN has updated the linked-to story, which now says that Martinez is retiring at the end of the season.

I confess. A heartfelt "yes!" was my response to hearing about good ole Fay. Had I not been driving at the time, I'd have added a fist pump. Now if only Brooke Astor would get with the program. With all her $$$, I'm sure I'm not the only one waiting for her to go.

Yes, but Boston is not as West as he'd like to be. He made it clear that he wanted to play for a west coast team. Boston's about as notwest as you can get.

I'm sure there was a lot of begging taking place after thousands of old timer season ticket holders requested refunds for not only the shitty season with a shitty coach, but Edgar's the only reason that many people go to the games.

From Peter Gammons' column in ESPN.com today:
  • Nomar always said he loved the buzz and the passion of Boston, but on the other hand he could not deal with the notion that, as Mike Barnicle once wrote, baseball is not a life and death matter, but the Red Sox are. After seeing what's happened to some of his firm's clients, one very wise agent said that if he ran his own company and one of his players from Southern California wanted to sign east of the Mississippi or north of the Mason-Dixon Line, that the player would have to hire another agent.

I recognize that Oakland isn't Southern California, but if the shoe fits . . . .

its simple in hindsight.

in a real death pool you get 100- (dead guy's age) as points. Rick James is worth more than a Fay Wray. Your page sports some good pickers though. I wonder if there are any pages to help one get better at picking...

They're dropping like flies now. She was a solid pick and by my count she was on 6 lists: Flinty, Atticus, Dave, Thurgreed, Fugee and Spooky. This puts Flinty and Fugee ahead of me with 4 picks each. Dammit.

RIP, Julia "I like butter" Child.* Hank and Jack are still pickless. Myabe you all guessed that.

*thanks to Flinty for that one.

Between the French Chef and the Frugal Gourmet, it's been a tough month on the TV chefs...

One minute you're here, and the next... "BAM!", you're gone.

Sometimes in your posts there are typographical errors that suggest you post without full consideration of what you will post. Often the underlying content provides a similar hint.

So the "be friendly" tag line is all just a ruse? I mean, I'm not trying to stand up for ncs or anything, she can do that quite well on her own, but you pick Friday the 13th to both be friendly and mean?
Seems almost like talking out of both sides of your mouth doesn't it?

If you ever miss her so much, the Smithsonian American History Museum has had an exhibit dedicated to her and the general cooking-craze for the better part of two years.

As an aside, she was a member of the OSS in WWII, and I think she did her tours as a hardcore overseas combat operative.

Y'all might think I'm kidding, but I'm not.
