I'm waiting for Kerry to now apologize to Bush for stating that the Swiftees are "doing his dirty work."

Along these lines, does anybody find it odd that it is illegal to make false or misleading statements or omissions in connection with the sale of a security, but not in connection with an election?

Don't hold your breath.

This is probably as good as anyone will get from Bush (and, frankly, I feel spent on the issue). You should know, Club, that liberal bloggers and pundits have expressed dissatisfaction with Bush's latest statements, as being far less than a wholehearted repudiation.

That can (and will) be debated ad nauseum, but in any event I think it's a tremendous stretch to say Bush's "repudiation" was so strong that Kerry should now reply with a "whoops! Sorry, I was wrong about you not being against it! Apologies!"

No. It is so, probably because to impose anything remotely like that would lead to the mass imprisonment of all officials who run for public office. Granted, that may not be a bad thing, but you'll need to come up with some short term alternatives before enacting that legislation.

Point of order. baltassoc is not competiting against AG and me. He's in his own "special" group. we'll have a contest for him soon. Maybe Replaced Texan* can volunteer to help b. and his friends train.

I'm not asking for that. I'm asking him to repudiate his statements that Bush was behind it. There are no hard facts to suggest this.

the turning tide part 6

I was listening to the local talk radio show this morning (cite: Dallas TX-KLIF 570AM; Darryl Ankarlo show) and heard General Tommy Franks declare that he will be voting for W!!

This is major news as the leftwing media distorters have tried to play a previous statement by Franks re: the fact that JFKerry met the constitutional requirements for president to mean that Franks was endorsing JFK. Ha! Eat that you socialists.

And Rumsfeld. Remember when he authorized menacing Gitmo POWs with dogs, and then rescinded the order? Slave implied this was a sign of Rumsfeld's wisdom and good judgment. If Kerry'd done it Slave would have called it a flip-flop.

It sounds like the last word on the dog menacing at Abu Ghraib will be that the MPs used them in a game to see who could get more prisoners to micturate in fear --- including some as young as 15.

Also:
  • Speaking on the condition of anonymity because the report has not been released, other officials at the Pentagon said the investigation also acknowledges that military intelligence soldiers kept multiple detainees off the record books and hid them from international humanitarian organizations. The report also mentions substantiated claims that at least one male detainee was sodomized by one of his captors at Abu Ghraib, sources said.

WaPo link.

AG - our country would be under domination by fucking Canada if our armed forces were populated by sniveling little wimps like you.

People like you are what will destroy America as a great nation.

ETA: America is the greatest nation on Earth not because it has the strongest military (although it does), nor because of its amazing capacity to generate wealth (which is stunning), nor its incredible ability to produce so much foodstuffs it feeds itself and much more (although this is true), but rather because it can claim to the world that it and its people are good, or at least just.

By engaging in torture and humiliation; by engaging in comparative justice (sure we tortured some captives, but they're killing us), we lose our moral authority. Without moral authority, we become nothing more than an Ottoman Empire, or an Austro-Hungary, or a Spain - dominant for a while, but then decending back into local obscurity.

I hate - HATE - you and your kind for allowing the rest of the world to look me in the eye and say to me, "you are as bad as we."

i'm the new Ty. you won't be hearing from the old. I've been thinking about this Hurricaine inFla. did you notice they didn't tell the people in its path to leave they told others to leave then claimed the path changed. what BS. I think the Bush brothers did that on purpose to have more people vote for Bush. It makes me sick. Plenty of bloggers agree.

Bye for now!

You are an idiot and a pussy. I hope you and your wife get sterilized so that you stop breeding. We don't need more of your kind.

No, moron, America is the greatest nation because of our economic power. But our economic power wasn't created by morons like you.

Yeah, it was all a conspiracy. It has nothing at all to do with science and our current limited ability to predict where hurricanes will and will not go.

Scientists probably could predict the next earthquake accurately, too, but the Bush brothers are preventing the scientists from getting the word out about that too.

I don't think anyone ever says "You're as bad as us." Usually its "You're bad and we're not."

Abu Ghraib and the Swift Boaters are two of THE WORST stories this year. Non-events. Nonsense. Rubbish. Crap. Hand-wringing over nothing (what? you think military jails through history have EVER been torture free?).

You have to be pretty fucking naive to think Abu Ghraib is the first or last time that shit will happen, or that we don't do a whole lot worse... Just what do you think we're doing with the high level captured Queda? You think we're not thumb-screwing and elctroding the piss out of those guys? Shit, we're probably force feeding them drugs we wouldn't test on rats. If you think we can cure Abu Ghraib, you're hopelessly idealistic and debating with you is pointless. At best, we can only hope to minimize such behavior. It is war, you know.

Jon Fucking Stewart nailed the whole swift boat thing last night when he tied the chief architects of the ads to Bush and Rove. He didn't need to do that because, unless you've shit for brains and been in a fucking cave on Mars for the past four years, Karl Rove's fingerprints were all over the goddamned ads. Whatever. Swift Boaters is the right's Farenheit 9/11. Its just not credible on any of its biggest points. Is kerry fluffing his war record? Absolutely. He's fucking politician. What do you expect? Drop the goddamned stupid issue and lets move along to something that might actually affect our lives.

If you vote based on what happened 35 years ago, you're a fucking idiot. I'll vote based on which economic policy I think will work best for me, not some goddamned nonsense about which politician lies more or which has better "values."

"Values" - what an utter pile of shit to be discussing in regard to politics. Its the parties' way of saying "we'd rather not discuss our actual policies." I see a lot of "values' talk from W and JFK, but I don't see much in the way policies or real numbers. That's a bad sign from the get go...
