Food & fucking turns to feminism - sorry

As a cultural thing, and stereotyping wildly, I suppose, men get to cook, while women have to cook. Small wonder it's more fun for us.
There's that, but I think there's a subtler issue of cultural assumptions about identity & sex - it's not about choosing the activity, but the idea that women should somehow be able to do it just because they are women, and if they can't (or they have to be taught how) they are somehow lacking a basic element of womanhood (or having to compensate for being inadequate females with remedial training).

Which I think is a weird and actually pretty new idea. Used to be those "feminine arts" types of skills had all this romantic baggage about being passed from mother to daughter - i.e.: part of the feminine mystique of it all was the fact that it WAS taught/learned behavior. Seems to me that many of our (generationally generalizing) mothers, the first wave of post-Freidan feminist mothers, either consciously refused to learn those skills from their mothers and/or consciously refused to teach them to their daughters, generally with some idea of breaking the chain of domestic servitude. So many women of my generation were not taught things like cooking, housekeeping (which also is a learned skill, though far less acknowledged than cooking as such and at least as complicated), dressing, decorating, etc. by their mothers, and we somehow got this idea that, since we wern't taught them but were still somehow expected to do them, they must be innate skills not learned ones. And if there is something you are supposed to be able to do without being taught, and you can't, there is something wrong with you.

Generalizing wildly, of course.

ed to fix crappy grammar.

A first-ever post with a helpful answer. Welcome!

Is that stuff any good? Thanks to sebby, I've been drinking Knob Creek or Maker's Mark in places that don't have Bushmills or Jamesons.

Try Booker's. It's unique. Stronger than hell, though.

Really? I wasn't even trying to do that. Perhaps I should use the same lines with Hank.

Just put on a tight shirt and talk to the lesbian buther at Whole Foods about some easy-to-grill pre-prepared stuff they have there, and bust out with some of their other pre-prepared stuff. It's good.

Is butcher a common lesbian profession? As barely can testify, I had a big ole bulldyke chasing me around Cleveland Park for awhile. She told me to come by to sample her meat. I asked ifshe had anything in a soy cheese pizza.

eta Various sources say May 24, but they've been pushing back the dates for two years.
Let's get together for a "Complaint Box" viewing party.

Food & fucking turns to feminism - and back to sex, I hope

Or, to put it another way, it reminds me of something someone once told me about the difference between how Brits and Americans have sex.

Americans are self-helpers and improvers. Anything they can do, they can be doing better, and thus the self-help book industry, which, among other things, tells us all how to be attractive, loving, loved, sexual dynamos who never get headaches or are too tired to get it up, etc.

Contrast the Brits, who would never get (or at least never be caught dead getting) advice on how to do it better, because skill at sex is innate and it is unseemly to want (and humiliating to admit to needing) advice or outside knowledge of how it should be done or done better.

Thus, Americans tend to be better in bed despite being way more conservative about who they will sleep with and when.

You already know my answer to this: I would hit him in the head with a brick and send him some sort of baked goods.
