Hey, at rare moments, what's popular actually intersects with what's good. Remember Eminem's early stuff? That first Sum41 track? "Get Rich Or Die Trying?" It does happen.

In the less popular vein, check out Northern State. I know they were in the music rags a few months ago, but I dismissed them as a novelty act. Who wants to hear white girls doing something that sounds like 'Licensed to Ill'? Well after hearing a track in an H&M store this weekend, apparently I do. Check out "At the Party." Ear candy? Sure, but who doesn't love ear candy once in awhile?

They even talk the same.

By george, you are right. He looks just like Ralphie and not bc they are both Huge Fats. But I like Ralphie. Maybe its Ralphie doins a decent black singing performance that is throwing me. Or maybe I am sick of the domination of man fats.

Actually, I haven't had a chance to see it yet but Ir ead two or three positive reviews and it sounds like my kind of show. its supposed to be Curb- lite (no pun). Like, she plays herself but it isnt really her life.

and speaking of Curb, that show just keeps getting better the more you watchthe reruns. I saw the one where Larry is dubbed as having an ass fetish bc he said somthing to Wanda Sykes, and it is absolutely laugh out loud hilarious. The red light shot of him and Jeff's mother's huge ass is priceless. Can I make that an avatar, MR? Or maybe you shoudl use it. Second season Curb is television at its best.

Do Ducks Have Fraternities?

I hope I am not repeating any prior posts. I have stricken with the superflu so have not been able to keep up.

Necrophilia among ducks ruffles research feathers

Donald MacLeod
Tuesday March 8, 2005

The strange case of the homosexual necrophiliac duck pushed out the boundaries of knowledge in a rather improbable way when it was recorded by Dutch researcher Kees Moeliker.

It may have ruffled a few feathers, but it earned him the coveted Ig Nobel prize for biology awarded for improbable research, and next week he will be recounting his findings to UK audiences on the Ig Nobel tour.

Ducks behave pretty badly, it seems. It is not so much that up to one in 10 of mallard couples are homosexual - no one would raise an eyebrow in the liberal Netherlands - but they regularly indulge in "attempted rape flights" when they pursue other ducks with a view to forcible mating. "Rape is a normal reproductive strategy in mallards," explains Mr Moeliker.

As he recounts in his seminal paper, The first case of homosexual necrophilia in the mallard anas platyrhynchos, he was in his office in the Natuurmuseum Rotterdam, when he was alerted by a bang to the fact a bird had crashed into the glass facade of the building. "I went downstairs immediately to see if the window was damaged, and saw a drake mallard (anas platyrhynchos) lying motionless on its belly in the sand, two metres outside the facade. The unfortunate duck apparently had hit the building in full flight at a height of about three metres from the ground. Next to the obviously dead duck, another male mallard (in full adult plumage without any visible traces of moult) was present. He forcibly picked into the back, the base of the bill and mostly into the back of the head of the dead mallard for about two minutes, then mounted the corpse and started to copulate, with great force, almost continuously picking the side of the head.

"Rather startled, I watched this scene from close quarters behind the window until 19.10 hours during which time (75 minutes) I made some photographs and the mallard almost continuously copulated his dead congener. He dismounted only twice, stayed near the dead duck and picked the neck and the side of the head before mounting again. The first break (at 18.29 hours) lasted three minutes and the second break (at 18.45 hours) lasted less than a minute. At 19.12 hours, I disturbed this cruel scene. The necrophilic mallard only reluctantly left his 'mate': when I had approached him to about five metres, he did not fly away but simply walked off a few metres, weakly uttering a series of two-note 'raeb-raeb' calls (the 'conversation-call' of Lorentz 1953). I secured the dead duck and left the museum at 19.25 hours. The mallard was still present at the site, calling 'raeb-raeb' and apparently looking for his victim (who, by then, was in the freezer)."

Mr Moeliker suggests the pair were engaged in a rape flight attempt. "When one died the other one just went for it and didn't get any negative feedback - well, didn't get any feedback," he said.

His findings have provoked a lot of interest - especially in Britain for some reason - but no other recorded cases of duck necrophilia. However, Mr Moeliker was informed of an American case involving a squirrel and a dead partner, although in this case it is not known whether the necrophilia observed was homosexual or not as the victim had been run over by a truck shortly before the incident.

Have you seen any of the VH1 celebrity weight loss show? He's on that, trying to lose weight. They show far too much semi-naked Ralphie May for my tastes, and they are horrible about padding a half hour show into an hour show, but its aiight. I can buzz through one show on Tivo in about 25 minutes. Daniel Baldwin comes off as just as much of a train wreck as he was on the World Poker Tour show.

spoiler:

They're all trying to lose weight. They have all lost some weight at this point.

Other than Rawb, the people aren't sufficiently detestable or annoying to make it interesting. There's no jonathan yelling at his wife, just cheatin' Rob. Selecting people with relationship issues and/or temper control problems makes for much better theater that picking nice people with stable relationships. The fact that they were sent to South America first, again, kind of makes it seem like a repeat of season 5. Can't they backtrack or take flights in different directions?

possible spoiler follows
Making it worse, the southern boys got eliminated right away, and they could have made for some Bolo/Lori knucklehead-type confrontations. And then, just as a Temptation Island scenario was getting started, the chiquitas got eliminated. BTW, the two brothers seem like they should do better than last place (or close to it)--it's like they're toying around with teh game, rather than playing it seriously.

I am obviously hanging out with the wrong poker crowd. You'd think models, movie crew workers and assorted former badasses would count for something in this town. Too old school I guess.

In my book, the corniest thing I have ever seen. Nice graphic detail it appears however.

TAR SPOILER

The boobs-n-bleach chicks losing may have been the final nail in the coffin for this season. They are so cut and paste LA transplant and so shallow that I thoguht there was a decent chance there might be some lesbo action bc they clearly love the way they look and its like looking in the mirror. That said, I hit pause on the Tivo when one of the chicks was talking to one of the brothers, and i have to say, her face was deeply deeply lined, almost as bad as too much sunnybunny's. and the brother was a little wrinkly too. Are these people like forty or what?
