I miss gigantic power staplers.

The medium and medium-small ones are handy to reseal bags of chips. I was also able to use one as an on/off switch for the battery-operated red lights that were in the eye sockets of the cow skull I used to have in my office. I never had much use for the big ones. I just ask for stuff to be bound, and people do what I say.

On the other side of the coin, I'd be real happy if A-Rod never got to play in the world series.
Steinbrenner demanded A-Rod expand his own responsibility and become more of a leader on and off the field, Sports Illustrated reported, citing the source.
"I didn't bring you here to be just one of the guys," Steinbrenner said, SI reported, citing the source.
I thought being a leader was Jeter's job, but I can see how he'd want his money guy to step it up a little.
And tying 2 threads - did the richest guy in baseball give any money to the tsunami funds? I didn't hear about any. Hell even Sandra Bullock gave $1mill to the fund. Maybe he's just trying to support his family.
|
I heard Godzilla Matsui gave $1mill, and lots of basketball players (including Toronto's own Jalen Rose) donated some money tied to the number of points they scored in their first game after the disaster (I think it was $1,000 per point or something) -- pretty decent gesture.
There are rumors going around that the relief funds have more money than they know what to do with and are wasting it on frivlous items, but I think that's probably absurd.
I'd love to see a plan whereby the US adopts a foster country every year and helps try to make that country a kick-ass place -- irrigation systems and literacy improvement programs and WIFI and all sorts of shit. Kids in schools could learn about the place, think up ways to help out . . . coordinated exchange programs . . . what do you think? We could start small, like with the Maldives. Who do I have to talk to to make this happen? Wouldn't this be right up Bush's alley?

Str8, can you get tickets off the Coldplay fan club website?

Count me in among those disappointed with the lineup. But I have connections to Weezer previously disclosed on this board, and other connections to the festival itself, and have always had an outrageously good time, so I think I'll be there. You can find me at the side of the stage where Rilo Kiley is playing, drooling away.

Someone made the point earlier that some funds (Docs without Borders) stopped taking money pretty early on, saying "I'm full, thanks."
I saw today the Red Cross make a similar announcement -- they've collected something like $1.2B worldwide, think that's sufficient for now, and have stopped taking funds that are dedicated to the tsunami effort.

Who was she in High Fidelity? Maybe I'm not remembering that flick very well...

I was going to do a post saying "don't you need the big ones to use in your masochistic rituals?" but then realized medium works for him.
I like the big clips to clip together groups of already clipped together documents. Like, a plan is clipped with a medium clip, and I use a big clip to clip the 12 amendments (each of which is stapled) to the medium-clipped document.

Will Ds w/o Bs take money if you don't specify that it's for the tsunami effort?

Yes, and they may use it for tsunami relief, but they didn't want to have to limit their relief efforts elsewhere because of earmarked funds.
