I tend to think the cause is the time I spent in Minnesota. That place is full of wanna-be hip hop white boys* bobbin' their blond locks to Dead Prez and talkin' about how the cops look at them funny when they roll through Eden Prarie on their way home to their parents' 4 bedroom, 5 bath suburban dwelling.

It's obvious that he's trying to make up for his pussiness with that manly bed.

Chicago's ban in bars becomes effective July 1, 2008. Smoking is currently banned in restaurants. I actually can't wait. It doesn't bother me that much (as an ex-smoker), but the wife isn't a fan of smokey bars. It'll be nice to be able to wear a sweater again after being in a bar w/out washing it.

Damn, that was pretty.
After trick or treating was over, I finished the last 75 pages or so of Fever Pitch. I had soccer dreams last night. I didn't really understand most of the technical stuff in the book, but I understood in the dream that I was a die hard Arsenal fan and everyone else could just sod off.
I don't even know Arsenal's colors, though I do know, thanks to a Marketplace report yesterday, that they just acquired a 17 year old named Theo Walcott.

Sleeeeeep
Is it normal if your body is used to virtually no sleep that when you actually do get a good night's sleep it throws you for a loop and you feel more tired than before?
That is what I am feeling now. And I had a triple espresso.

That triple was a single. The doppio part was saliva. Barristas talk, you know.

Plus, someone lets all these fags in.

Other than the assholes being from different cities, this sounds just like West Hollywood Halloween. Except that there are also inexplicably yuppies (this is probably no longer the correct term) wheeling around small children in expensive strollers. Which part of night of drunken debauchery in the gay part of town drags out the toddlers, anyway?

I am on a huge Nick Hornby kick. I just finished How to be Good and I'm about to finish The Polysyllabic Spree. Fever Pitch is undoubtedly next, as I think that may be the last book of his I haven't read. I also love the name The Polysyllabic Spree and it reminds me of sitting in Zilcher Park trying to listen to [who was it, who was it] someone else over the din of 80-someodd chorus-gown-clad-singers. Good times.

I haven't read Fever Pitch or his essay collections, but I was very disappointed in How to be Good and A Long Way Down. I loved About a Boy and High Fidelity so maybe my expectations were too high.
I will probably read Fever Pitch eventually just because I haven't completely given up on him yet, but my hopes are not high.

I may not be a particularly discerning reader, but I liked both of his latest novels. But you remind me - I never read About a Boy. I assume it is worth reading even if I found the movie to be sort of <meh>?

I thought the book was much better (but isn't that always the case?). If you like Nick Hornby, you will like About a Boy.
I'm reading The Uses of Enchantment right now. I'm not very far in, but I really like it so far. It reminds me a little of Alice Hoffman's novels.
