The other day, I remembered the other funny line in the history of Friends: the one about Joey's tailor ("That's the way they do it."/"In PRISON!"). Other than that, I'm really hard pressed to understand why this show had the legs it did. It is not a compendium of cultural knowledge like Seinfeld, and it resorts too quickly to the "Scene: X kisses Y; audience goes WHOOOOOO!" school of dramatic twists.
Watching this show in its last season is like watching a relative with Alzheimer's fade away in a nursing home. One that you were never close to but your family said you were supposed to love.
BTW, Ross looks like absolute shit. His career is over when this gets put to bed.

Scrubs - Very funny. Although more needs to be done with Dr. Cox and the other old cremudgeon[sp?]. Their acts are getting old. Fast.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Huh. I thought this was a disappointment. I kept asking, "Why does that Elliot chick look like crap?" It was like she skipped makeup. Oh, it's the standard Makeover Plotline. Of course.
Agree on Cox/Kelso thing. Cox has annoyed me from Day 1. His dialog is good; his delivery got old by the end of the first episode.
I'll add my own: Angel. I think this should be mandatory FB watching, since the entire season is about being good inside an evil law firm, and the compromises we make in the interests of continued employment.
Making Gunn a lawyer was an interesting twist. I was wondering how they'd get around Cal. Rules Prof. Conduct, Rule 1-310. One down, four to go.
Looks like they'll make good use of Harmony.

Coconut Bang. They sold it at the Blimpie all the cool kids hung out at for lunch in junior high. DEElicious. 86.5% sugar. I've never seen the Orange Bang, but there was a fruit punch one. That was good too. They were not creamy, but frothy. I haven't seen them in like 10 years.

It was actually pretty damn funny. They have shifted focus from Gotterdammerung to the sharp quip. Which is definitely good from a per-show p.o.v., but I'm wondering how it will play over a longer story arc.
Can't a partnership have a hired, non-partner, management? That might explain it.
spoiler space if anyone cares.
Harmony annoyed me much less than I expected. Fred's tongue-lashing was very impressive - she will make a good evil boss. I like slick lawyer Gunn, he is hot, and they desperately need a hot man on this show. Besides Spike. But I've heard Spike does a nude scene this season - something to look forward to.

You joke, my cold-blooded friend, but I *always* have to catch up after I am away for a trial, a deposition, a "deposition," or whatever. I just feel weird if I don't know what the latest TM/bilmore spat is about. And don't even get me started on the thought of missing a single one of fringey's snarkisms. Shudder.
I know -- pathetic. But I feel much better now that I have admited this out loud to all of my imaginary friends. Whew. Back to studying a security videotape of a 72 year old woman with a walker slipping on a puddle of Diet Squirt.

My thoughts on Thursday nite NBC
Friends - Really laboring. They took one idea that should have lasted for 6-7 minutes and stretched it out for the whole show. The writing just isn't there.
Scrubs - Very funny. Although more needs to be done with Dr. Cox and the other old cremudgeon[sp?]. Their acts are getting old. Fast.
Will and Grace - Mira Sorvino is scary thin. I almost did not recognize her. She was funny. Much more so than Grace.
ER - No idea. Saw the previews. Something about war and Dr. Carter. Looked silly.
Extreme Makeoever - O.K. I know its not on NBC, but I like seeing these people get chopped up and redone. Some of the "afters" are pretty amazing. The most disturbing thing was a preview of one of the upcoming makeovers. A guy lost 200? 300? pounds. They show him running. He looks like he is wearing a baggy skin suit. It was very gross. I can't wait to see the show.
aV
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
a - agree. Once Rachel had a baby she bacame less hot and so no interest in her love life. And the whole ChandlerMonica marriage - yawn.
ER - is finally actually starting to get interesting. Luka died in Africa. Carter (with his new inheritance) is going to find him and to make changes to health care.
The Practice - I actually thought I would hate it without Bobby and Lindsay and Helen. Turns out, I actually hated them. And the show is better without them.
The new guy (can't remember his name - was on Sex, Lies and Videotape) plays an absolutely perfect sleazebag lawyer - and he's a wonderful letch. Watch it just once - see if you don't enjoy him and say - hey, I know a lawyer just like him.
West Wing - If you've given up on it - come back. Admittedly, they phoned it in the last couple of years, but now there is a lot of controversy and tension over who kidnapped the Bartlett daughter - will she be killed - what's the retaliation from killing a murderous world leader - and will the speaker of the house ever step down (Bartlett stepped down when his daughter was kidnapped and the speaker of the house - John Gooden - has taken over and has impressed the staff and the American public.)
Again - just watch it once and see if you don't get hooked again.

I'm sure the chewed-up Labrador was really glad these little guys were freed to let 'em be their true selves. Maybe they could consult the hapless terrorized local wildlife first next time?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am reminded of a BBC program about fox-hunting bans in the UK. The fox population is apparently getting rather out of control, and they are apparently moving into areas of London. They had a hilarious interview with a little girl, about 7 I guess, who was raising bunnies in her back garden for some school project, and the foxes devoured them. And her kitten, too. It sounded like they really strewed bunnie-guts all over the place. This was hilarious because the little girl was all mournful in her Alice band mouthing these animal-rights pieties ("the poor bunnies didn't deserve to die, they don't hurt people, harmless bunnies shouldn't be killed like that, people need to have respect for animals so this doesn't happen again"). Really really funny. Only the British can have quite so much fun tormenting children.
BR(that and she sounded exactly like one of those Creature Comforts characters)C

I'd add Minor Threat to the first list, and New York Dolls to the second. Johnny fuckin' Thunders.
Agree re MC5. Funny that with the way-left politics, they were reportedly a bunch of sexist bastards. In their communal house, the girlfriends were expected to all the "women's work." Sonic Smith must have reformed, because I can't really see Patti Smith putting up with that shit.

5. Rush deserves everything he gets, and I think his undoing is the beginning of a mini-revolution against the right. The worm appears to be turning a bit as moderates in both parties seem to be waking up finally and saying "Hey, what the fuck are we spending all this dough for?" and "Hey, who put all this white trash in charge?" And its about time. Tom DeLay is the sort of man who should be servicing the lawns of voters, not dictating policy to the house. And these Ashcroft type people with their evangelical fervor... hell, you can't let these sorts have the keys to the jail. They're bible thumpers, for crissakes.

Rush Limbaugh doing Oxy. What a laugh. Shows you how fucking stupid you have to be to be a ditto head.
Do you really think that these guys -- Rush, O'Reilly, really have any strongly held beliefs? No. They are entertainers feigning these beliefs to get ratings. They are reality-TV (or radio) versions of Archie Bunker.
