I think the reason NY still inspires such animosity is because when it sucks, it sucks relentlessly. There's no escaping the big concrete albatross. In Boston, if it sucks, you head to New Hampshire, the Cape or Western Mass. In San Francisco, there's the Valley, the Coast, all kinds of places. Even in Chicago you're not far from Wisconsin.

When it sucks in New York, what are your choices? New Jersey. Long Island. Upstate New York. Fucking Connecticut. Bleech. So you stick around.
