here's the most important part of Spank's post: - Michael Levin, an attorney for several suburban Philadelphia school districts, says, “I’ve been in this business for twenty-five years. Nothing surprises me any more. I just had my first cannibalism case.”
I've been warning you all that Sebby's "Philly is full of fat windbags" commernts are a feint away from the real problem. Philadelphia is a hotbed of Cannibalism. Apparently it has now infilitrated the Public Schools.

Easy to fire teachers?
Los Angeles Unified employs about 35,000 teachers, but from 1990 to 1999 it managed to get rid of just one through its dismissal process.

With enough grilled peppers and cheese whiz, does it really matter what the meat is?

How nice. You have a guy who lists Rush Limbaugh endorsements on his books who agrees with you.
Yes, Unions spend money defending teachers through administrative courts and arbitration. Surprise! Do you think the teachers should go unrepresented?
Law firms also provide pro bono services for Guantanamo inmates. But, that's right, you guys think those firms should be boycotted.

Pulling out the Washington Times hacks!
I'd stick with your Right Wing Christian allies rather than the Moonies. After all, they taught Ted Haggard to be a Heterosexual in just a couple weeks, so I'm sure they can repair the inner city schools!

How can you keep babbling in the face of this one cold hard fact?
Los Angeles Unified employs about 35,000 teachers, but from 1990 to 1999 it managed to get rid of just one through its dismissal process.
http://www.signonsandiego.com/union...ed14bottom.html
How could it be possible to fire incompetant teachers where an organization that employs 35,000 lets go of one teacher in nine years?!?!?. Even if a hundred teachers had been let go that would be a sign that there is a problem.
Even if only one percent were bad, that is still 350 teachers and that is assuming no overturn. And you know one percent doesn't even accountn for the pedophiles that made it into the sysem.
Clearly the tenure system at LA Unified is seriously screwed up.
I started off this whole discussion talking about how screwed up LA unified is and how hard it is to fire teachers. You, Adder, and Sidd all quesitoned the accuracy of that statement. Can it really be that hard to fire teachers.
When I said, a teacher had to commit a bad act to be fired, not teaching was not good enough, that comment was labelled absurd. That is clearly the case at LA Unified. Many teachers are not teaching, not doing their jobs and no one is being let go because of it.

How many cases were brought? How many teachers resigned rather than fight a case? Maybe the problem is with administrators rather than the union? And, by the way, what is the link to the union? Do you simply object to them providing representation, or it is their support of Democrats you object to?
The cite to one statistic tells me very little; I'll continue to rely on the world I know better, one where teacher removals are hard but do occur.
I know it's hard when you can't just cite to a single biased source and call it a victory (Hi Hank!).

You have apparently (I haven't got time to read your articles right now) established that teachers weren't fired. Not that they can't be fired. They are not the same thing.
And no one said that it it was absurd that the idea that it is difficulr to fire teachers was absurd.

Is it possible for you to even once make an argument that is not such an obvious fallacy? Who cares if Rush Limbaugh endorsed his book? If we discounted books by who endorsed them, no book would have any validity.
Address the validity of their arguments. But if you are going to go the credentialed routes here is who these guys are. You may not like the PRI or the Hoover institute but it is not like they hire idiots or people that don't back up their articles with research.
