Me: Wrong. Flying 767s into the WTC twin towers is not art its fucking murder. Fucking moron.
I'm sorry, but I have to agree here. How can you possibly justify an act of mass murder as some kind of avant-garde performance art. I've seen a lot of weird things in the name of art - Jim Dine drinking paint; Chris Burden crucifying himself to a Volkswagen; the whole Piss Christ, dung on Virgin Mary theme; etc., etc. But you have to draw the line somewhere. What next - calling serial killers misunderstood artists? PJ, you are way off base here.

Again, what the fuck are you talking about? I wasn't talking about the terrorist act, I was talking about whether the new building design represented the right message to send, in response to the question, "what do you think about the design?"

I hope you (and that sock) are joking. Because if you remotely think that someone could compare a violent act to art, you are one sick bastard.

It's too damn tall and it's going to throw the whole NYC skyline out of proportion. Just like the Sears Tower does here in Chicago (IMHO).

Flirting on the Job

I am a HUGE flirt, both on and off the job. But I do NOT usually flirt with anyone who is "above" me in the ranks and certainly not with anyone who would be prone to take it the wrong way. There are a few male partners I flirt with, but it is more of the friendly variety of flirting that the overtly sexual style I use with, say, the hot IT guy. I would never flirt with a client. I flirt with both genders too, and you would be surprised how many women flirt back. I am also surprised how well this works (greasing the wheels of support staff, IT, and fellow associates). I know that my back is gotten.
I once commented to someone (on the phone) that I was flirting with my cat. To me, flirting is kind of a tone of voice thing, and a being nicer or more effusive than the situation actually demands -- not in a sincere way (because then the person would think you were a total moron) but in the flirty, wink-wink-nod-nod kind of way. It's not really a sexual thing because everyone knows it's insincere. It's kind of like flattery, maybe, more? Like other people have said, I have an easier time doing this with women and men who are unavailable.

This is kind of stream of consciousness-y, but I guess work flirting is like sex flirting except instead of the topic of flirting being that the other person is outrageously sexy, it's that the other person is outrageously smart/competent/helpful (uh, team-player-y)/pleasant to work with (sadly, this is a high compliment in the lawyer world).

However, obviously it can spill over or I wouldn't be hesitant about doing it with people I see as potentially sexually available to me.

A gray hair just gave me a holiday bag of cashews. Last year it was pistachios. What's with the nutsacks? Is he flirting with me?

Absolutely. They are, as you rightly suspect, just a metaphor.

No. If he were flirting, you'd get a BMW.

Being Outright Rude

I've noticed that although I am generally a nice and happy person, sometimes I am outright rude. I have also noticed that I am only outright rude to those who I know will never call me on it or who I know I will never see again (or whose opinion I value so little I simply don't care).

For example, I have been rude to the check out woman at my local Walgreens because she is slow (and fat and cypherlike) and I don't like slow (or fat and cypherlike). Once I was rude the first time, it feels weird to then be nice the next time so I have this pattern of rudeness with her. It makes me feel bad, but I can't break the cycle.

I was also rude to the trainer at my gym who whistled at me to get my attention to tell me I couldn't leave my warm up pants scrunched at the base of the elliptical machine. About a year later I ran into this guy at my managing partner's Christmas party. He is the partner's personal trainer. Small world.

Anyone else outright rude at times and powerless to stop it?

I'll have to start dressing more suggestively.

Telephone solicitors and people who cut me off / annoy me when I'm driving.

Abba, you don't have to flirt with the elliptical machine to get it to work.
