For Those Planning on Reading Clinton's Book

In that case, read Richard Clarke's book. he does not mention Ms. Broderick, but you might find it interesting or (gasp) informative.

Is this in reference to something in particular? The crackpot liberals running SF were all elected, I thought.
Wait. They haven't collectivized the means of production yet, have they? They promised me I could be there when they did, those jerks.

He and RT can commiserate about how democracy is a short putt from tyranny when you hold a 15% minority view about what should be done on any individual issue.
Club, just a reminder --- you can always turn the tables by moving to Fresno.

Saddam's man in Al Qaeda
Guest-appearing at TPM, Spencer Ackerman has a couple posts up ( here and here) about this Iraqi lieutenant colonel who reportedly was a member of Al Qaeda. While the story hasn't fully played out yet, it seems pretty clear that the AQ member isn't the officer. "The individual identified as a Fedayeen lieutenant colonel is Hikmat Shakir Ahmad, while the individual identified as present for the Kuala Lumpur meeting is Ahmad Hikmat Shakir Azzawi." But folks are still looking for a link to Iraqi intelligence.

Ackerman shouldn't be so skeptical. Hayes has already addressed all of these issues. The different name thing is not an obstacle to establishing this link, because, as Hayes notes, "such discrepancies are common." And of course the link to intelligence is there because of the evasive answers he gave to the Jordanians and because of the "interest" the Iraqi government showed when he was captured. So, it is clear that he had to have intel training and therefore must have been high up in Saddam's hierarchy.
Saw this guy Hayes on the Daily Show last night. He reminds me of nothing so much as those guys who keep listening to Beatles records backwards in order to find clues as to the manner in which Paul McCartney died and was replaced by a body double back in 1966.
edited because Spencer Abraham is an entirely different person than Spencer Ackerman, despite the fact that their names have the same number of syllables.

Re: TDS, you gotta admit that was one of the best political shows they've done in a while. They cut back and forth between Cheney denying to the CNBC reporter he'd ever said the Atta/Prague meeting was "pretty well confirmed," and then him on Meet the Press in 2003 saying that the Atta/Prague meeting was "pretty well confirmed." I was starting to think TDS was slacking off.
Spat fire. Ranks right up there with the Bush vs. Bush clips they did about the GOP platform on nation-building during the campaign. Too bad Kerry doesn't have much of a platform to mock.

I'm not sure. Say they pull up to an outdoor murder scene with one person standing over the body. No witnesses, no weapons in sight. There is no way they should let you go without knowing who you are.

It's hard to imagine that they would let you go under those circumstances, even if you told them your name, address, social security number, and favorite Spice Girl.

You mean that crackpot millionaire businessman who counts Getty as one of his primary backers (and has a hot wife)?
Sure sucks when reality gets in the way of myth.

Agree on both counts. I've been kind of underwhelmed by the faux newsmagazine pieces of late so its nice to see them stick with their strength a little bit. I really liked the Clinton stuff too. "Clinton is at his most sincere when the situation is at its most hypothetical" is pure gold.
I would say that they do bag on Kerry fairly often too, but you're right that the focus is more on the monotone and the rambling than his "platform".

Say what you will about the "cultural elite" --- you've got to admit that the areas where we're more densely populated tend to have a higher class of titty bars than the Central Valley.
