Last night I was playing 9-18 at Commerce Casino. I was up a rack or so ($300) playing super-tight aggressive for a few hours, when the following happened.

I limp in with A-4 suited (bad, I know, but I'd been getting no cards; I got 3 pocket pairs, all lower than 8-8, in 5 hours). Pot is raised by Mr. super aggressive who was up a few racks. Lots of limpers, I call.

FLop comes Q-6-4, rainbow. Checked to the raiser, he bets, I call. Down to 3 players. Turn comes a 6. Checked to the raiser. He bets. I check-raise. He calls. Other guy folds

River comes a 10. I bet, he calls. With pocket 5s.

Three hands later, I pick up A-K under the gun. Aggressive guy raises. I three-bet, and somebody else caps it. Flop comes K-J-6, again rainbow. I bet, aggressive raises. I three bet, he caps. Four players in the hand.

Turn comes a 2. I check to Mr. Aggressive. He bets, I call, as does everyone else. Huge pot now.

River comes a Q. Check, Aggressive bets, I call. He shows A-10.

Boom, there goes my $300 in profit in two hands. We both left the table soon after, in very different frames of mind.
This post almost makes your unforgiveable use of the word "fabulous" in a prior post forgiveable. I'm sorry about your night. But didn't you think in (esp in a limit game) hand one that mr. super aggressive could have had a queen, or even paired the 6, or worse, flopped a set of 6's or 4's? Sticking around to the river with low pair and an ace kicker seems to be a little aggressive (you're hoping for one of two 4's or an ace?)

I say this only as a friend, and a big poker loser.

It was a move, one that was so uncharacteristic of the table image I'd cultivated to that point that I didn't see how he could stay in unless he had a 6. Which I correctly read him for not having. It was a call that was either brilliant or awful. I'm pretty sure I didn't give away anything.

Well I wasn't there, so you're in the best position to know. But in limit games, there really isn't much pressure you can put on a guy that is in every pot. No limit or pot limit, you'd probably force him out with the right bet. It's frustrating and boring, but gotta stick with better cards, or play super loose and hope to get lucky. I usually end up with a decent starting hand, only to lose later on. Seriously, I've had AA cracked more times than I can count. Usually by some guy with A rag, and rag appears on the flop and then river. Makes me so happy. Guess that just means I fucked it up somewhere with the betting. No more slow play for me unless I have the nuts.

Hey. Take it to the Lawyers Playing Poker board!

I kid! I love this stuff! If only we could turn all the Post Endlessly About Baseball people on to how much more kickass poker is, this board might finally become amusing.

Carry on.

You know that all these bands were influenced by Godspeed You Black Emperor's reign of terror over Montreal in the mid-90s. Hell you even like Broken Social Scene.
Did ya'll notice that the Amazon link has conveniently been moved so it shows up on every page?

Look to your left.

1) Talking about poker sucks. Especially when it's Flinty doing the talking, who also has some of my money. Talking about baseball is fine*

2) Be even more grateful that Gwink and I have resorted to talking about hockey offline.

* Note the Steroid Committee subpoened Schilling. I'll withhold my snarky comments as he is - ha ha ha - innocent until proven guilty

Don't be dense -- they subpoenaed him because he has been fairly public in complaining about steriods. (eta: See, e.g., this Dan Patrick column from three years ago.) He'll be a friendly witness.

I bet he's a GOP congressman within 10 years of retiring.

So they subpoened him to be a rat? Even better.

Sorry. I've bought 8 CDs based upon board recs. 2 I don't regret, and 1 of those is just because it allows me to play the single most bothersome band for people and pretend I like it.

Shouldn't we really wait for the DNA test results from the father str8's offspring contest to come back before we start with a new one? The original winner might want to be involved.

... like it? ... don't hate them? I kept waiting for the edit that would make this read like an English sentence to me. Sigh.

[On an unrelated topic, why am I such a procrastinating slacker tonight? I'd like to get home, but apparently I don't care enough to buck up and finish drafting this damn agreement.]
