Re: Is Ted Cruz Satan? Discuss.

Pandering to wingnuts seems like a bad idea.

Of all the Not Bobs, I am the Not Bobbiest.

Ah, Cheap Trick - I always think of them as springing onto the scene the following year, fully-formed like Athena from the forehead of Zeus, with the release of Live in Budokan. But that is merely my memory of how they sprung into my awareness.

And my list was not meant to be all-inclusive, and I simply picked the first two albums that I was aware of in 1977 and think are, even now, good. (To be clear, Rumors is a stone-cold classic, while Changes is just (hah! "just") really good.) I mean, I didn't mention Elvis Costello's My Aim is True because I wasn't introduced to it until several years later.

I definitely think Nixon should get some credit for Roxy's Country Life. I'd give him credit for all of Woodstock in a way.

Carter gets credit for the heyday of CBGBs. That was on his watch. We're talking Patti Smith here. The Stilettos. Joan Jett. The Shirts. He was also in the big house for the birth of Rap. Grandmaster Flash. Sugarhill Gang. Gil Scott Heron.

Carter was the man.

Re: Is Ted Cruz Satan? Discuss.

Texans are often not fond of the constitution. I'm glad the government is finally taking action to represss them.

But it doesn't seem entirely fair to Utah.

Yeah, but John Bonham died while Carter was in office. Worse yet, his death was too late to prevent the release of In Through The Out Door.

"All of My Love" is basically Elvis. But I have a soft spot for "In the Evening."

If I had to kill one Zeppelin record, it'd be:

Yeah, "Achilles' Last Stand" is decent, but the rest of it sounds intentionally off tempo. Miserably unfun record.

Jesus Fucking Christ. Motherfucker. Goddammit! Fuck, fuck, fuck! The city is on fire due to protests that have to do with police brutality and decades of govt policies that are turning lower middle class areas into third world slums. Now, we might disagree about what should be done about these things. Frankly, I don't think the situation is fixable. But what's not up for debate is that the situation exists, and has been caused in significant part by govt policies and changes in the global economy! The most important and interesting aspect of this thing is not that some Black mother is mad at her son for rioting. And anyone who elevates such a peripheral bit of the story to prominence betrays one of the following:

1. Idiocy (you're actually stupid enough to think the mother/son scene is as important as the broader issues underpinning the riot);
2. Head in Sand-ism (you'd rather focus on any bit of the story that seems possibly positive and allows you to ignore or avoid discussion of the broader issues underpinning the riot); or,
3. Dickheadedness (you're an asshole looking for any way to blame the rioters exclusively, and absolve the system/status quo, which you happen to like, from any responsibility).

Was she mad at him for rioting or scared that he would end up like Freddie Gray?

I have found that if you ignore twitter, yahoo/yahoo comments, espn comments, and use facebook infrequently, these type of inane soccer mom comments (or any other idiocy) cease to exist. It's glorious - try it out.
