If there are, Sebastian would have been "driving" one as of last year. And they would already be hopelessly passe in Williamsburg.

Oh no! Did you send me a pair as well?!? Well, no worries. They also come in fuschia, so I'll just exchange the pants you got me when they arrive.

when we stuck to those we had a huge crop of long time lurkers to fill in the newber ranks. Now we don't have them.
if we get back to basics, and add in the inside jokes like flower and i engaged a few posts back (they make the lurkers WANT to belong) then we will have the lurkers jumping that first post line in no time.

Hi! Long time lurker, first time poster. I have been lurking since the 6th day of the board, over 3 years ago and unsure how to enter this fray, given the cliquishness of the chat and the frequent flaming of newbers. I always liked the "Flower is girlish/gay" motif because of the perceived irony of it all and almost posted on it before and then, of course, he jumped the shark and anything Flower was so 2001, so I knew the risks of posting on it and declined. and lurked. But now, DAMNIT, I am ready, and especially if the board is going retro-oldskool on its on-topics.
There it is. I did it. Spot on mates. This feels good-I wish I hadn't waited this long.

They're perfect!

Welcome, Newber! First, let me congratulate you on your good judgment. Posting on the "Flower is girlish/gay" motif last year would have done nothing but bring down upon you the crushing wrath of Paigow <sniff> and possibly others. But as you have keenly percieved, what's old is new again. Black is the new black (no offense), and your timing with respect to your decision to test the waters is impeccable. Your instincts will serve you well on this board, for it does get a bit rough and tumble here from time to time. I would give you the whole "cocktail party" speech, but given your extensive lurking history, I have no doubt you have seen it a thousand times! Just keep your head low and watch your back. You'll go far. Corner office and all that.
As for avatar suggestions, feline-themed avatars seem to be tried and true. But go for what feels right.

Flying cars and gettin' stoned. This reminds me of my favorite Harry Chapin song.
A deaf man's Arlo Guthrie... gone too soon.

Your capacity for irony appreciation has become so diminished, it is shocking even in the context of these boards. And don't you dare try to respond with some post-hoc whiff.
Don't.
You.
Dare.

Welcome, moose!
As for avatars, I suggest Bullwinke, of course. But that's because I am Not Hip.
You could also go with Moose from the Archie Comics series (Archie's friend, football player, dates Midge, hates Reggie because Reggie is always trying to bang Midge, etc.).
Or Marty Moose from the original National Lampoon Vacation movie (starring Chevy Chase and Anthony Michael Hall as the put-upon son, later replaced by some other scrawny geek).
Or the Moosehead Beer logo. I quite liked that beer when I was 17 ("it was a verrrrrrrrrry good year").
Or Mike Mussina, if you are a [sigh] Yankee fan.

He can always move to my neck of the woods (great biking! just sayin'...), where they are just discovering the mojito, and be hip forever.
My fave recent overheard quote:
"What's a mojito?"
"It's a cosmo with mint."
Too true. Too true.

Thanks for the jolly gay welcome Flower! I do like the cut of jib, rotflmao.
I am trying infamous limecat as an avatar, that is felinious, but is it jumped the shark?
I want to try to offer some substance, so here is my other thought for this post:
Is it me, or does lawtalkers seem more plain vanilla boring these days?
While some of the back and forth from the old days like Paigow v. JRuss and Slave and balt and Hank v Mr. Ruysbruecke, or Thurgreed vs allcomers/newbies were sometimes not very friendly, people here had a community that was open and welcomed others and was familiar and yet intimate the net wide and throughout multiple law firms etal.
Now that is approaching 2590 members, is there still the same sense of community?
..or does it seem weird because I am one of the last longtime lurkers (no time posters, until a few minutes ago) standing from lawtalker's first six days and from the first week there are perhaps less than a dozen of us?
