No. You're right, though. It is a better indicator for backs than for quarterbacks.

How is this a question? Maybe I don't get it.

If he's ready to play for Houston, you should pick him, no question. If it looks like he might pull an Eli or Elway, trade him like he's Herschel Walker.

I must admit that I thought Salaam was going to be damn good.
Can you believe Clarett? Couldn't make the team. Busted for robbery less than a year later. Damn.

Stay in school, kids, or you too will end up jacking cell phones at gunpoint behind some bar.

Didn't he blow out his knee as a rookie?
If I'm Houston, I take Bush. I'd start the day after the game. Since GHWB is a Houstonian, I put him (I send Babs out of the country while Poppy is working this deal) in charge of wooing Reggie, selling him on the "Bush Dynasty" or some such crap. Solicit his thoughts on who he thinks the new coach should be. Nod knowingly as he explains how Pete Carroll is the guy. Show him around town, throw some money at him, get him hookers and blow, dates with RT's sister -- whatever it takes, I make him want to be in Houston.
At the same time, I also look for an offensive line.

Charles Woodson beat out Payton Manning for the Heisman in 1997. I was wondering, with the benefit of 20/20 hindsight, if he was still the better choice for that year as the top NFL prospect.

He won the Heisman, but I don't think anyone ever considered him, at any time in his career, a better NFL prospect.

Yeah, the Heisman has never been, nor has it ever pretended to be, an award for the college football player with the most potential to excel in the League. It's intended to recognize the outstanding Division 1-A(??) collegiate football player.
Nobody ever pretended that Eric Crouch would be a legit pro, at any time during his college career. Certainly not at QB, anyhow. But he still got enough votes to win the Heisman. Same goes for Detmer and many many others.
Charles Woodson was a great choice for Heisman and might wind up in the NFL Hall of Fame, so lay off of Woodson.

Lay off? Are you implying that at some point -- any point -- you thought he would be a better pro than Peyton?
Didn't think so.

I thought RT was ripping Woodson for being a bust Heisman, a la Ty Detmer. No, I never thought Woodson would be better than Manning. I didn't think he'd be better than Ryan Leaf, either. Though it's tough to compare CBs to QBs.
