Who is Rupert Murdoch?

I am kind of hurt that Hank didn't even try to PM me with his incredibly harsh criticism/attempt to prove that he isn't the third most-hated poster (current or former) after ppnyc and penske.

actually I was complimenting you, and suggesting you should be more you, and less copying the more dull-normal crowd.

oh. I was voted "most beloved," so explain that.

Most beloved on the short bus?

Whatever.

Still like Friday Night Lights. I am toward the end of Disc 3, Season 1. "Dad, I was 10, I wasn't. . . blind."

Tim is kind of Jordan Catalano-esque. I think there was a sly reference to it when Logan said "You are one of those guys who slipped through the cracks, you can't read!!" or something to that effect. Like when Brian (Brain) Krakow was tutoring Jordan.

ETA so if I'm in Wisconsin, and Jordan Catalano of old, plus Tim Riggins of now, are both my clients, there's no MFM . . .

But if Tim Riggins is Jordan Catalano's client, and they are, like, kinda into each other in a mirror image kind of way, I could really nicely kind of, like, volunteer to, like, be, uh, an intermediary so that they could, like, stare into each other's hot little eyes while, um, well, like, whatever.

Every plot synopsis I've read of "Michael Clayton"* includes the same basic sentence: "Clayton (George Clooney) is a 'fixer' at a big New York law firm . . . ." I never worked for a big New York law firm, so I ask you --- is this a real job, or is this some kind of made up bullshit to sound legalistic, like B-movie movie titles like "Presumption of Danger" and "Cause of Mitigation" and "Malicious Possession II"? Even the best white collar defense lawyers in SF weren't particularly influential; they were just very good trial lawyers who specialized and sometimes won pyrrhic victories (see, e.g., Brosnahan and Keker) when the case was massively overcharged to begin with. But they didn't "fix" shit. So, fake?

*In doing the IMDB research to make sure I didn't call this movie "Michael Collins" as I originally set out to do, I discovered George Clooney is making a movie version of The Fantastic Mr. Fox. Animated. And directed by Wes Anderson. WTF? Voice talent is still being lined up, but if there is a God then Farmers Bunce, Boggis and Bean will be voiced by Jim Broadbent, Robbie Coltrane and James Cromwell.

But that's her real-life dog!! And she gave him a pseudonym on the show to protect his privacy!

What is this "fixer" job and where can I apply for it?

It sounds a lot better than "finder of new companies with ample assets and smoking guns that we can get millions from."

It's a good flick.

Many firms, not just in TCOTU, have a guy who does what Clayton does, more of less. It's not a question of influence, it's more about connections. Your client's son got busted for a little grass in the next town over? Ted used to be a prosecutor, and was active in the statewide association, and knows the guy in charge of that office, maybe he can get your kid a withhold if he stays clean.

It's gotta be a different friend. Different restaurant.

Funny how many Syracuse sorority chicks end up restaurant managers and their life goal is to get married and be a party planner! Mediocre, indeed!

Most of the press I read about the movie was re: Clooney as senior associate, whom, while viewed as competent enough to get the job done, is not considered equity partner material. Therefore, year after year they are passed over for partnership. Since those particular firms don't have an "up and out" policy they are forever embalmed as "senior associates." [i.e. 14th Year Slave]

Rupert Murdoch is the chairman CEO of Newscorp. Fox News? NY Post? he's married to Wendy [Deng] Murdoch who is like 100 years younger than him. He's ancient and has like, a 5 year old. 2 babies I think.

sports radio

A few weeks ago, a talk radio station here went all sports. I would listen to the old station on my way home, so it is a habit to leave it on.

there is a show with two writers talking about local sports. one of them is also on the TV news sometimes, so i recognize him. Yesterday the two guys had a fight. some college football players were caught doing something. One guy felt they should play until convicted, the other guy felt they should get kicked off the team. People called in and yelled at the "kick off" guy.

most days they talk about the Lions, the Lions should do this or that. these guys do this for four hours a day.

Last night we go to dinner and end up at the bar to wait for our table. the "kick off" guy is next to us, with his wife. He notices that I noticed him, and a look of "oh crap" flashes across his eyes, like he probably gets guys giving him shit all the time, and yesterday he's get shit for wanting kids kicked off a team.

but what I really wanted to say is that I do not get how anyone can listen to his show, or any sports talk show. the Lions have not been to a Championship game in 50 years. they won 3 games last year. How can anyone talk about them for hours every week, and worse what numbskulls could listen.

even with a good team, how can there be anything to talk about "I think the Pistons should play this one guy more and this other guy less, blah blah." how is that something to listen?

I wanted to ask him "how can you go in and do that every day?" It is flat out being paid to masturbate, but without any ending.

do any of you people listen to sports talk.
