When Seinfeld ended, I said to this older guy that it was the best show ever and I would never get sick of the reruns. So far, I watch reruns now and then and they still seem good. He told me that wouldn't hold up because he felt that way about Cheers and he has never watched it since it went off the air. I think that probably the reason for that is Seinfeld was just a better show.

(and RP, don't forget Designing Women. timeless)

The last episode is an incredible piece of ensemble work, but really the whole thing was. I'll never forget them all in a huddle together trying to get to a tissue.

You would have known Rueben had an album if you hadn't shamed me out of posting realityblurred stuff here. Now I just know these sorts of things but I don't share them with the board.

Gifts from vendors

One of the associates in my office just got a bottle of Johnny Blue (SD's favorite) and a fucking box of Montecristo's from a copy service. I realized that he gives them a ton of business, but that is outstanding!

Toby Keith played halftime of the Cowboys game on Thanksgiving. I think it's safe to say that if there's a list of people who don't love the USA, Toby Keith is not on that list. He's kind of an Uber-Lee Greenwood. But I gotta say I like that one song of his, "How do you like me now?" I've worked it into my vernacular, having said it recently when I reached the green in 2 on a par five by smoking a 3 wood down the pipe. "HOW DO YOU LIKE ME NOW?"

I, too enjoyed this show, but I really didn't think of it as an ensemble comedy. I thought of it more in the tradition of MASH with both comedic/dramatic elements. Maybe this also had to do with the hour-long format. It was quirky, yes. Amusing -- certainly, but it didn't make me laugh my ass off, like say, Seinfeld.

I was also wondering why The Simpsons wouldn't count. You have an ensemble cast of five or six key people (doing 50 more or less fully developed characters, mind you), but after over 10-plus seasons it still makes me laugh my ass off.

Atticus, as this is your poll, please make a ruling.

I went to RS to look up the review of Ruben's CD and there isnt one. Did it just come out? ANyeone know how it sounds? I also saw that Kid Rock gota strong review on his new CD, was compared to two of my oldtime favorite bands, ZZ Top and Bad Company, and also learned he as been around for ten years. What CDs of his shoudl I get? Any Kid ROck fans out there? And is that review of the new CD reliable?

Thank you.

We just had the Hilton here singing Christmas Carols. With them was a person dressed up as a mouse.

I wonder if they volunteer for that or if they actually like to do it?

Merry Christmas from the hilton

Notes from Hollywood

1. Paycheck is pretty entertaining. Don't expect much subtlety in the performances, however, especially from Aaron Eckhart, who seems to be going for a crazy Bond Villain type thing. But John Woo is back on form.

2. Ben Affleck went over and hugged Kevin Smith before the premiere. Seeing Kevin Smith does nothing for me. Didn't see Uma Thurman, which is a pity because I think I'd be her type.

3. You can chat with Paul Giammatti about Yale stuff and his dad in line for the Mens room, and he'll be a good guy about it.

4. Walking by John Woo definitely does something for me. I'd love to sit down with him for half an hour to ask him about Killer minutae.

5. Jennifer Lopez's butt really is everything you've heard (was going to say "it's cracked up to be," but . . . ). Big and beautiful. I don't like her chances to age well, however.

I've seen a lot of weird things in the name of art - Jim Dine drinking paint; Chris Burden crucifying himself to a Volkswagen; the whole Piss Christ, dung on Virgin Mary theme; etc., etc. But you have to draw the line somewhere. What next - calling serial killers misunderstood artists? PJ, you are way off base here.
Wasn't it you who said Van Gogh's cutting off his ear was "arty."
you split hairs.

I was wracking my brain for a show that took place between menarche and menopause but I couldn't remember a comedy -- only the dreadful chick drama "Sisters."

DW wouldn't have fit my proposed triumverate, though, because it was funny, particularly in the first two seasons when Suzanne was a firecracker but not a caricature (and Delta Burke was ravishing). And Julia (the Terminator) is an all time great female television character. Whenever I encounter a real asstuft who desperately needs to be told off, I want to channel Julia Sugarbaker.

Edited to note that "asstuft," which I coined here today, would not have been possible without paigow. Yay, paigow!

I happened to be home yesterday and was flipping around on the tube while eating lunch. Ruben was on the Wayne Brady show. He said the cd has "something for everyone." He sang a track too but I was off to something more amusing like the surprise makeover show or the shopping channel.
