creepy teacher story

So my wife had a male middle school art teacher that she found influential, inspiring blah blah blah.
Once when we're back in town we go to introduce our kids to him. Point is he has only seen wife once since she graduated.
A few years later she goes to school webpage and sends him an email. They start writing. After a few months she gets an email saying:
1) he is unhappy in his marriage
2) when he "makes love" to his wife he sees my wife's face.
3) he knows they would be happy together
4) he wants to come out here and see her.
So she says, sorry no*, and they should not be in touch anymore. Meanwhile we're creeped because we're afraid he might come here and start stalking. Plus, we're creeped because the "face" he remembers is a 13 year old girl's face, and the guy is now the principal at the school.
Anyway, we don't hear from, or see him, for a year. Then when looking at the IM my daughter recieves I happen to see a screen name with his name in it, message "Hi, I'm a friend of your mom's- can we be friends too?"
*I know she is probably fucking him behind my back- maybe right now while I'm laboring here at the Company.
|
I doubt he would make any move on your daughter if he's really fucking your wife.
Wierd that, the way you throw this in almost as an afterthought. Do you really believe that he and Mrs. Chinaski are doing the horizontal bop? And if so, is that cool as long as he keeps his hands off your daughter?
This whole thing cries out for either further explanation, or an acknowledgement that you were bored and felt like yanking some chains.

No, no, dearest RP. You are correct.
Diane Lane? (Oh, wait a sec -- the chick from Unfaithful? -- I always think Diane Ladd, in which case, our love affair would have ended right here, right now.)

That seems totally normal, though since you didn't include information on the placement of the "In the event of Rapture, this vehicle will be abandoned" sticker and the placement and exact nature of the pro-life sticker, the evaluation is incomplete.

My, aren't we friendly today. I think there are many more valid reasons why I am not with Mira. However, Sun Tzu says to gain a competitive advantage over the smarties (or Kennedy-Smiths) you sometimes need to play the mysterious country bumpkin.
Are you going to force me to start pointing out your spelling prowess now?

In other news, is this normal:

A person without a gun is a subject.

I am glad to be unburdened of my misimpression. Many thanks.

PLF was merely looking at situation as a lawyer. The best response is to change some email accounts and hope he gets caught otherwise. Its not against the law to say hello to a minor via IM. And I know he's nuts. One guiding principle in my life is to minimize the number of nuts who have extreme grudges against me, or here at least not make the grudge worse.

Indubitably.
(And may I point out your boundless good nature in giving Mr. Man a face-saving way out by suggesting that only maybe is that the reason.)

When dtb does it, it's cute. When you do it, it's annoying. But, she's not fat. So, I guess that explains it.

bored? yes. True story? yes.
The * acknowledgement was to deflect the inevitable joke that the rabble would make at that point.

Good point, TM. And really, folks, what isn't explained away by a person's non-corpulence?
Right. Nothing.

I am bowled over by the mysteriousness of your bumpkinning. I think I need a cold shower.
dtb, double possessive is really OK? I really do need a cold shower.

I have a question. [I know I beat it into the ground with the train stories, but this one is somewhat important]
On the train in the morning my husband noticed a small creepy looking guy with a boxcutter on his belt --it's visable. [tradesman? possibly we don't know] so at night, I noticed the same guy, who was standing too close to me in the train vestibule...as we were waiting to disembark. I turned around and gave him a dirty look and he scuttled off.
One night hubby was late, and the guy followed me off the train and I quickly walked and stood next to a tourist with a wheelie cart and the guy scuttled off. last night he was watching me as I climbed into the car. He obviously notices patterns, as he seemed to follow me once he realized my husband wasn't waiting for me.
I was going to say something to the train conductor but he wasn't on the train this morning. Should I say something to the conductor or not? If he gets thrown off the train will that exascerbate the situation and he'll come after me, or is there a way to report him without him knowing it's me? or am I being paranoid.

So, he's not banging your wife, but you are worried about him stalking her and/or your daughter? If so, why not just block him from the email and IM accounts? If he can't get in touch, then maybe he'll go away. If he gets more persistent, then you may have a stronger basis for getting an order of protection or something.

Oh yeeees. It is called the "double genitive" construction (i.e, "a friend of my father's" or "a friend of mine"). Although some object to its usage, the construction has been used in English since the 14th century and serves a useful purpose. It can help sort out ambiguous phrases like "Bob's photograph", which could mean either "a photograph of Bob" (revealing his image) or a photograph in Bob's possession. "A photograph of Bob's", however, can only be a photo that Bob has in his possession and may or may not show Bob's image!
One of my favorite grammar books (Woe is I) says both are correct, but when a pronoun is used, make it a possessive (duh!):
a friend of his, not a friend of him.
