San Diego
I am going to San Diego myself next week, and am staying at the del Coronado. Directly across the street is a supposedly nice hotel, the Glorietta Bay Inn. I have a colleague staying there and should be able to post a review of it wen I get back. It's .5 stars less than the dC and is reportedly a small inn that was converted from an old mansion.
Anything entertainment ideas for a preggo in SD?

Let me know on the Glorietta Bay Inn -- I may push my trip back to March.

NYC Hotels
It's been a few years since I lived there, so I'm out of touch with remotely affordable hotels for a 3-4 day only-partly-business-subsidized trip. Suggestions/recent experiences? I used to stay at the Stanhope when I visited, but I think it went/is going condo, and I don't suppose it needs to be that nice...but would prefer not to be in Times Square.

is this place trashed or is it still fun*? hotel on the beach? any suggestions for things to do in LA with teens?
*we were at the airport for a half day- jumped in a cab so I could show my kids a beach- asked the cab driver to take us to Venice- he said it was far too dangerous and we should go to Hermosa. I was thinking he just wanted to increase the fare, but am wondering.

My kids put up with Detroit 364 days a year. On the 365th, I think the least you can do is spring for a hotel in Marina del Rey.

daughter's friend is apparently staying w/ family at some house there. Proximity to friend would help keep daughter manageable. It seems not a bad place to start from to get around.

Venice is still weird. So in my book, that means good. The beach is not unsafe at all. There are still a couple of bad areas in the town, but you wouldn't come across them if you head there for the beach.
I don't know of any hotels in Venice particularly. I would think that you'd rather stay in Santa Monica. If you stay in the Ocean Park section of Santa Monica, it is a 5 minute walk down the beach to Venice. Also good shops, bars and restaurants within walking distance on Main Street.
I'm pretty sure there is a Sheraton there because I was checking out the Starwood property selection in California the other day and saw it (there are other chains there too - I think a Days Inn or something like that), and then there are the fancy places too -- Shutters, Casa del Mar and The Viceroy. Those are Not Cheap.

Any suggestions for a possible long-weekend trip in February? I'm thinking Arizona would be sufficiently warm, but I'm open to other locales as well...

FWIW, Ojai has been highly recommended to me as well, and has long been on Mrs. Gap's list. I'm sure we'll end up there eventually.

So? Glorietta vs. del Coronado? Spill it!
