LOS ANGELES - “X-Men” star Patrick Stewart is recovering at home after undergoing an angioplasty procedure earlier this week to widen an artery, his publicist told The Associated Press Friday.

The 64-year-old Stewart — who played Professor Charles Xavier in the “X-Men” film and its sequel and Capt. Jean-Luc Picard on “Star Trek: The Next Generation” — went for an annual physical Monday, according to publicist Kelly Bush.

This one flew under my radar, but Laura Branigan died last week. That would have been an impressive wildcard pick, alas, nobody had it. My inspired wildcard pick, Jack White, seems to be not pissing anybody off this year, and will probably make it through the fall and winter unscathed. As will the rest of my geezers. Sigh.

It's a good thing that I'm just KILLING in my baseball bets (mostly betting the Red Sox to win, the Dodgers games to go under, and the Blue Jays pitching to suck. Another 3-0 night tonight with that strategy. Woohoo

SPOKANE, Wash. - Richard G. Butler, the notorious white supremacist who founded the Aryan Nations and was once dubbed the “elder statesman of American hate,” has died at the age of 86, authorities said Wednesday.

Butler, a longtime admirer of Adolf Hitler and white supremacist religious teaching, had moved to Idaho in the early 1970s, claiming later that he was impressed by its high percentage of white residents. To the dismay of many residents, the region became known as a place hospitable to white supremacist groups.

Johnny Ramone, guitarist and co-founder of the seminal punk band "The Ramones," has died. He was 55.


Ramone died in his sleep Wednesday afternoon at his Los Angeles home surrounded by friends and family, his publicist said. He had battled prostate cancer for five years, and was hospitalized in June at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.


Ramone, born John Cummings, was one of the original members of the Ramones, whose hit songs "I Wanna be sedated" and "Blitzkrieg Bop," among others, earned the band induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002.


The band's singer, Joey Ramone, whose real name was Jeff Hyman, died in 2001 of lymphatic cancer. Bassist Dee Dee Ramone, who was born Douglas Colvin, died from a drug overdose in 2002.


Johnny Ramone founded "The Ramones" in 1974 with Joey Ramone, DeeDee Ramone and Tommy Ramone, the only surviving member of the original band.


A tribute concert and cancer research fund-raiser was held Sunday in Los Angeles to celebrate the band's 30th anniversary. It featured performances by Los Angeles punk band X, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Henry Rollins and others.


Along with his wife, Linda Cummings, Johnny Ramone was surrounded at his death by friends Eddie and Jill Vedder, and Rob and Sherrie Zombie. Other friends who gathered at his Los Angeles home included Lisa Marie Presley, Pete Yorn, Vincent Gallo and Talia Shire.
