Listen, you brick, if you want to talk about how you think I am hypocritical, in any way,* you are opening yourself up to every single thing you're hypocritical about. Understand?

And don't pretend like you want to have a serious discussion after the fact. You were trying to pull your holier than thou act. And you can try to pull that shit with me, but when you do, I am going to post about your hypocrisy and why you're not holier than anyone. You follow?

And now I'm going home to catch some football. I assume you're not going to say another fucking smartass word or we'll all have some fun tomorrow.

*And it is interesting that you have no idea what I do for pro bono or in the community, but you think you've uncovered something and feel like you're justified in taking the offensive.

Justice requires death by firing squad. Unfortunately, the liberals have exiled Lady Justice to places like Singapore, so this won't happen.

I tend to agree with you a bit though (although I don't think if blacks stopped using it that you would be giving the power of the word back to whites -- whites shouldn't use it now and shouldn't use it if blacks stopped using it; but either way, if they do use it, it will piss black people off). I don't think the word should be banned. That's silly. It is a word that is important to our collective history. I don't necessarily agree with how pretty much every young person seems to use it now, but I guarantee it is less meaningingful to the younger class than it ever has. I don't think it will ever be innocuous, but it's not the lightning rod it used to be.

Re the first point, I'm a cynic. I tend to read any quick corrective reaction as knee jerk. Placing my cynicism aside, I hope you're right.

As I've watched the media work this issue for the past days, I'm coming to the thinking that comedians/screenwriters should be allowed to use because of its cultural relevance. The compromise ought to be that it can be used in satire/social commentary, not casual senseless conversation. God only knows how that bright line can be developed. The problem with the word is, its like a gun or a drug... in the right hands, its a useful instrument. Unfortunately, the "right hands" are those least reaching to use it.

I got drunk as hell and bet a bottle of Johnny Blue on Michigan in that game.

I also bet a case of beer I could touch a ten foot ceiling. Neother worked out.

Yes, I have absolutely no vertical. None. And my left knee is shit, so when I tried to jump, I looked like a gimp sissy. In front of my wife and all of her friends, one of whose husband now gets that fucking bottle from me.

Fuck Michigan. They're an eternal reminder (a) I never had game and (b) am an embarrassing alcoholic.

I was in Neiman's today. How many ugly women can they stuff in one fucking store? Maybe it's just this area.

vertical starts to decay around 28. I used to play in a lunchtime game that was mostly professionals, Docs/lawyers etc. It was a good run, with none of the arguing because we all had to go back to work in a few hours, so who'd argue. I was early 30s.

This one guy and I were the better rebounders. He fought like a tiger for position. I used all my Rick Mahorn shit to counter. we had classic wars of strenth and strategy over every board.

We're playing the day before Thanksgiving- college kids are home- and 2 current D1 guys show up (we had former D1 and even a former NBA guy).

Anyway, at one point, my team has the ball and I can see the guard lining up to shoot. I start for the short side of the basket. my nemesis hip checks me away. I roll off- defensive lineman style, to the side closest to the shooter, then throw my butt back into him. I have him boxed away as I see the shot coming, and it looks like it will be coming my way. I'm looking up waiting for it to drop AND I know with sweet victory that he's watching it, and knows I won this round.

Then, while the ball is still above the rim, the two D1 guys fly in above us and one of them grabs it. I realize my nemesis was also looking up to watch it play out. If I could have jumped like I once could at least I could allege over the back.

After that my nemesis and I didn't fight so much for position. It would be like cutting the food line at a senior's home.

I don't understand how Parrish played so long.

Break From Board

I think I need a break from the board. I haven't diagnosed exactly what that will entail. I may lurk or post a few inane typical posts but definitely not going to fight.

I just can't anymore. Too much negativity and too draining. I don't have the energy. work is ramping up and the holidays are approaching. I need to focus positively. the board just isn't fucking fun anymore. it has gotten so negative and snarky and heel biting..I can't deal.

I'm sure a fair share of you are like 'THANK GOD" and for the rest, I'll check PM's. but I'm done with the internet brawling thing it sucks ass.

To those that are nice to me and that are cool, it's been really great which is why I held out for so long. Thank you for that.

Damn I feel great like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders.

This is a nice segue into something I'd been thinking about asking here as part of the ongoing discussion on racial name calling.

Earlier this fall, someone calling into an AM radio show hosted by a black woman made a comment that the local gossip columnist (also black) found outrageous and racist and I thought was more stupid than racist. It got me wondering where the line between stupidity and racism might be or if at a certain point stupidity is racist. Yes, deep thoughts from Fugee on a cold night.

So, the topic of the show one evening was Minnesotans whining about cold weather. One guy, a recent transplant (and presumably white), was saying he didn't know what to expect. His comment that got him cut off the air was "I'm scared, you know, I don't know how your black ass survives through it..."

Flippant and/or snarky comments involving "your [adjective] ass" seem to be not uncommon. So on the one hand, it could just be a guy trying to be funny on the air by making one of those comments. Both the radio host and the columnist took the comment as being racist. I'm not sure whether it was that or just monumentally clueless.

The columnist's bottom line was this to someone who wrote in questioning whether they were overrreacting: Let me help: Say all you want about Steele's behind, but you CANNOT give it a color. When you do that, it suggests that you are racist.

Stupid? Racist? Or stupid and racially offensive?**

**For the record, I can't imagine a circumstance in which I would say "your black ass." I'm just more curious where the line gets drawn.
