It's a joke, yet you're arguing like there's something serious to argue about. There's not.

BTW, how sweet would a 4-team playoff be. Winner of LSU-OSU and Michigan-Florida for the national championship. Three great games. Instead we get one, and a bunch of talk about problems, once again.

Digital point-and-shoot redux

I know, it's a gadget-y question, but that board seems to be much more geeky than I'd really like, at least on this topic. We'd like a new digital point-and-shoot to replace the several-years-old 2mp one we're still using.

A few months ago the Nikon Coolpix L3 was recommended here--how is it holding up? It's certainly cheap, but I'm dismayed by the lack of optical viewfinder.

Anyone have the Canon A540 or something similar? Anything else they'd highly recommend? Remember, I'd like an optical viewfinder (not just a screen), 5-6MP, small, easy to use, etc.

eta Is there any reason to stay with the same brand we've been using? Would they use the same software/memory cards? Old one is a Fuji Finepix.

It is daytime at the wildlife preserve and someone is present to move the camera around and zoom in on some wildabeast who are grazing in the background. Mr. Man would also like the record to reflect that it is very unlikely that anyone saw a yak there if it is in South Africa (or really, anwhere with an elevation below 10k feet or outside of Tibet). For those keeping track, he is also a Wild Kingdom nerd.

Carry on.

I just can't anymore. Too much negativity and too draining. I don't have the energy. work is ramping up and the holidays are approaching. I need to focus positively. the board just isn't fucking fun anymore. it has gotten so negative and snarky and heel biting..I can't deal.

I'm sure a fair share of you are like 'THANK GOD" and for the rest, I'll check PM's. but I'm done with the internet brawling thing it sucks ass.

To those that are nice to me and that are cool, it's been really great which is why I held out for so long. Thank you for that.

Damn I feel great like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders.
May I ask you a serious question? Will you give me a serious answer?

Do you take any responsibility for the negativity of which you speak that has overtaken the board? Can you see that perhaps you have contributed in some small way to the atmosphere of snarkiness and internet brawling? Will you acknowledge that you have hardly been an innocent victim in all of this?

I recommended the Coolpix and have been very happy with it for what I ask of it. If you will be taking lots of pictures inside without natural light, the flash is not great, but that's probably true for anything in that class. As I think I said here before, you can probably get a nicer camera for more money, but I was looking for something inexpensive.

eta: I don't miss the optical viewfinder at all.

It is oddly soothing. I would like it to be projected on the wall of my office.

Is there a person, or is the camera programmed to pan around and focus in on stuff that looks a certain way and/or moves? It focused in on what looked like a pipe a bit ago.

Oooh, zebra!!!!

Do people ride zebras?

It is a person controlling the camera. I have no idea whether it is a person who is there or someone controlling it remotely, but I don't think you could get a computer program to chose correctly which thing it should be focusing on like that.

IN the last hour, it followed the wildebeast for a couple of minutes, then antelopes and some type of monkey/baboon hanging out together, then the zebras and now some birds that look like something out of the goose family (?). I'm afraid this little run has ruined me for watching the still-life nightvision cam.

Actually, fringe, it seemed like someone reached out at the lens and removed the nightvision lens when dawn broke (I just remembered this, but I didn't see the person, so maybe it was done remotely), so maybe a person is there observing?

Cool! I have too much faith in high-tech.

I think I want to leave the sound on while I sleep.

Sometimes when the camera pans you can see a building not too far in the distance.

The deer I saw yesterday did look very crafty. That bird rolling in the dirt -- not so much.

Remember you are asking this of a person who doesn't realize there would be daytime and night time at the watering hole.

Any Board that has Less, Sebby, Thurgreed, Ollie, LTL, Hank, DS and me (apologies to the other half-empty folks I missed) is going to be a tad negative - not for nothing and all that

Deer

What are the graceful-looking, deerlike animals with longish curvy horns? That are on now, if anyone is watching.
