Pentagram. Trees located where lines meet/intersect.

Skadden Holiday Woes

So apparently a Skadden associate worked on Christmas and [his] meal was not reimbursed because [he] ate outside of the 10 block radius... Sound familiar to any NY GAs? Here's the story:

http://www.whostolethetarts.com/arch...05.html#000405

Discuss.

Edit to fix gender. Not my gender, of course (which is fine), but the gender of the unreimbursed GA.

The reimbursement policy (esp. the application of it in this case) may be stupid, but the guy was a moron to send that pissy email. Not only for putting his pissiness in writing (haven't there been enough associate emails circulated to make someone think twice?), but also because it's not as if Lena in accounts payable wrote the policy or has discretion to change it, or cares that he worked Christmas Day, as he probably earns at least 4 times what she does. If he had handled matters differently, he might have gotten any or all of the following: reimbursement, some appreciation for working on Christmas Day (um, right), some sympathy for that and for encountering the moronic policy, and something to bitch about with other associates. Instead he gets a reputation as an associate who treats non-lawyers at the firm like shit (although one might think that would help his chances of becoming a partner who treats associates like shit). CCing her boss was also a dick move. He needs the lesson he's getting.

How does one person spend $45 for lunch at Houlihan's? Alcohol *must* have been involved, NTTAWWT.

Edited to note that it may have been dinner, but no big diff.

Although the story does seem initially cruel - the fact remains that there are tons and tons of restaurants open within 10 blocks of the Conde Nast building - Christmas day or not.

And $45 for one meal is an outrage. We didn't even top that when we ordered from Suibi.

Someone posted a comment at the original blog site saying that it was not an unreasonable amount, given Houlihan's prices in TCOTU. Get a $15.95 entree, throw in an appetizer and/or dessert, a Fresca, tax, and a generous "it ain't my money, so here's a 25% have a Merry Christmas!" tip, and you get pretty close.

That being said, I thought it sounded pretty whiny. But whatever.

I don't work in an area of law where deals must close by 12/31 or whatever, but is there truly any reason someone needs to work on Christmas, other than to provide a reason to whine?

As close as you can get to Jane Jetson's closet

I dragged myself into a Sears this weekend to buy new kitchen appliances and I saw this:

It is the ultimate drying machine. It will steam your clothes, and it claims to be able to remove smoky and other odors. It also has those mesh sweater dryer things that I'm sure many of you have tripped over at one time or another after hand washing your cashmere per BRC's instructions, but it's supposed to dry things faster than regular air drying.

I really couldn't tear myself away from the thing. I've never had appliance lust before. It's bad enough walking into Sears, but to be unable to leave because of a dryer? Homeownership is really fucking up my life.
