I have already had this argument with Bilmore, who I'm satisfied to say, took ppnyc's exact same position.

You get your own new "whiff" category. When your response demonstrates that you have no chance of comprehending the original post or any attempt to explain it, I'm just going to reply with "brick," brick.

And if they spread the salary cap around to ensure these players of a couple of years of guaranteed paydays, I'm all for it.
Those guys can't afford to hold out anyway.

I don't think so. If the Jets are willing to pay significantly more than the Pats, isn't that market?
Not if they say that but aren't willing to trade what they know it'll take to get him from the Pats. Then they're just messing with the Pats.

Agreed. Those players get used so bad it is unbelievable. But imagine a system that allowed teams to yank scholarships from players for being injured or because they recruited the wrong guy and wanted to replace them. Good Lord. All the initial casual sex and BMOC crap could be the equivalent of a signing bonus in that analogy.
As I said above, I think part of the problem is that a lot of contracts are being signed when people are drafted, and the teams don't know who's going to be good. If the teams were better at evaluating talent, you'd be more likely to see guaranteed contracts.

Well, the current system is part of the problem, because typically I would point to the size of the contract he would sign with the Jets, but we've established that that doesn't mean shit.

Do you really think if teams were twice as good at evaluating talent as they are now they would be more likely to give someone a guaranteed contract if they didn't have to? Come on.

I went to one of their games this summer after reading all the World Cup soccer stuff.

Needless to say, this was not World Cup caliber soccer. And they didn't even sell alcohol (maybe because the games were played on a high school field?).

To offset the lack of exciting play on the field, I think they need to have nuns giving massages, places to get haircuts, hot tub seats and a pig to bring out the ball** so there is a reason to go to the game. Maybe an announcer who will yell Gooooooooooooooooooooooal if someone scores. And definitely sell booze.

**All available at St. Paul Saints baseball games.
